It was the day after Labor Day. I forgot to renew my drivers license on my birthday in August. My driving record was clean with no tickets in years. I was heading out of state for work and got pulled over with expired plates and drivers license. The officer treated me like a convict and was rough with me as he searched me and put me in the back of his car. He then searched my car and suit case but found nothing. He impounded my car and wrote me tickets.
I know I should let this go as I have a huge resentment for the way I was treated. I was wrong for forgetting to renew my license but now I will have a misdemeanor arrest and possible conviction on my record. I have to appear in court this week and I am very nervous about jail time for the misdemeanor. I am worried sick over this mess and wish I could find some peace.
Maybe I should chalk this experience up as making up for all the times I drove while drinking but never got stopped.
You were arrested for expired license and tags? Never have I heard of that. A hefty fine for the license and late fees to the DMV for tags, Yes. But arrested? No way. Hmmmm......... If this is true and it were me, I'd lawyer up and fast!

Hi Daryl, Had to look at your bio. to see where you lived. Wow! I don't get the arrested part either unless there's something on the books that you haven't shared with us. I got stopped for expired tags plus no proof of ins. (AH had the card.) Within 2 days times no less! A small town cop the first time was understanding about the situation and gave a verbal warning. On the second go round a Sec. of St. Policeman. He was not as kind. Got tickets and had to appear in court. Scared too of fines. I "ran" to the nearest facility the following day purchased the tags and then got the card from AH. The day of court came. I showed everything to be valid and the judge banged the gavel and it was over. No car impounded/no fines. However, there have been changes since then and they are being tougher, but I don't think they arrest the offenders nor do they take the car. I'm in Illinois. Like Jen said......I think a lawyer might be beneficial. The roughing up.....is life it seems. It goes on everywhere which is a shame they get a way with it. That second cop very sternly asked both hands to be shown. I had reached in my purse to produce my driver's license. Thought he was going to make me get out of the car and frisk me the way he spoke. I had never been treated that way. Try your best to invoke HP to help you calm. And above all don't resort to alcohol.
I dont know your financial status but they are very happy to give you a second court date so that you can get a lawyer and if you have low income you could very well qualify for a free lawyer like I did. I was in an accident and it was my fault I got recless driving cops roughed me up too and were awful. But I got a free lawyer and he told me not to worry that he was going to make it "disapear"!!! I go on Sept. 25 so all pray for me ok? Love always, Allison
I used to have those same kinds of issues with my license and tags... I still struggle with procrastination sometimes, but I have worked out why. I believe that part of our self destructive inclinations involve creating excitement and craving negative attention. Procrastination will do both of those for us, not to mention cause us stress, lost money, jobs, and relationships.... It's an "Old Idea" that "we have to let go of Absolutely". Think about it, once you figure out why YOU do these things, you can start to motivate yourself to find the solution. For me, it's just making myself do the things that I don't want to do, on a daily basis.
Some of these Adult responsibilities involve paying money out (most of them actually do), and while we were drinking, paying money for anything other than alcohol, was a conflict of interest to us. Now that we are not drinking, we have to change our minds about how we spend money. If it's truly serenity that we seek, then we need to keep the wolves away from our door by taking care of our adult responsibilities. After awhile, you will actually enjoy sitting down and paying your bills, knowing that you're doing the "next right thing".
Its always scary to have to deal with the law!!! And Dean, I dont think I will EVER enjoy paying bills!!!! haha I had my day in court for the car accident I was in recently! It was suggested by the police that gave me the ticket to fight it and hopefully have it reduced. So, went to court, plead not guilty, got a court date set with the prosecutor.....
Gratitude galore......Went to court, met prosecutor..He gave me the opportunity to call my insurance company to fax info that all cars were taken care of....went before the judge, got it reduced and no points but still had to pay about the same fines:(
Very humbling experience......Thank God I wasnt down there (again) for a DWI!! Or some other "old stuff" I had done. It felt good to be there for a minor reason....
Met some folks while I was waiting for the fax...They were talking about domestic violence and getting that "sucker to stay away from me" etc...Told them both they need to move on, stay away from that kind of trouble.....Gave me a weird look but agreed.... Dont miss that kind of drama!!!!!
I guess, just do the next right thing and move on!!!

gday mate is labour day where you live a holiday? it sounds to me that the cop was recovering from a hangover, lets face it the worst days to do business with others in the work force are mondays. fridays, and the day after a public holiday , on monday lots of people are recovering from a heavy time on the booze, so they are ratty, shitty, and generally unpleasant, on friday the same people cant concentrate on there job as they are thinking about their first drink for the weekend, the day after a public holiday, its the same as a monday, so just beware folks, it doesnt matter where you live on this planet the best days to do business, or talk to a cop, lol, is on tues, wed, and thurs.
Dean's post reminded me of Kenna McR. She spoke at the Hilton Head, S.C. conference last spring. She said a few big things had happened to her in sobriety but it was the little things that made it all worth while. i.e. she left her car at LAX to fly to S.C. and the tags on the car were hers. They weren't someone else's that she'd taken a straight edge razor and scraped off!

Thanks for all of the great advice and ditto about Dean's post. Great stuff! I seem to have lost control of my financial situation or even getting and reading my mail. That is another touchy subject that I am dealing with, but won't go into the details. I used to enjoy paying my bills, almost like a sense of accomplishment, so I do understand what you are saying Dean.
And Tipsy, my cell mate wasn't as good looking as your avatar. :)
