I just celebrated my 3 Months Anniversary on Saturday nightin Little Current, ON. with my home group. I have actually been sober for about 5 months now, but who's counting ?! . My sponsor is a great man, and listens to me. I do my part and listen very attentively to him. He has shown me how good this can be on a personal level. And it is good.
Saturday was also the first night in 5 months my ex has allowed my son to stay overnight. I took him to the meeting and he sat quietly outside reading comics. After the preamble I was urged to bring him in, so I did. I had already been presented with the coin, but that didn't matter. I wasn't until after the meeting that did. My son met a teacher, a lawyer, then a man who is a pilot and drives a muscle car (my sponsor, Gary T.). They made a cake for me with 3 candles, and sang Happy Birthday. David (my son) was invited up to help blow out the candles. We held hands, took deep breaths, both leaned over and blew. But we didn't blow out candles. We extinguished the life of the old Scott. He won't be missed.
David commented on how friendly everyone was, and how nice they were. Yes David, they are nice aren't they ? They are a part of our family now. Life is good. And my good life is a gift from God.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the support you give me.
To surfer girl, I'm not sure what a chip is, I was given a copper coin the size of an American Silver dollar. There is an AA logo on it with a '3' emblazoned in the middle.
To Returned Here, no I'm not a writer. I just write so that people can feel what I felt when something significant happens in my healing and recovery process. It is the people here who enable me to express myself the way I do.

Chips or sobriety tokens are what Scott/mstrmsn66 described. They can be made of aluminum, bronze, gold plated, gold, silver and other substances and are the size of an American half dollar (about 1 1/2" in diameter).
They usually have the serenity prayer on one side and the number of days, months or years on the other side. There are many specialty tokens/chips also that can be given to celebrate lengths of sobriety, or other milestones of sobriety. Even for working the steps!
Usually, when you go to a meeting being new, you receive a newcommer token/chip or beginner's token/chip. Then when you have a month, and monthly thereafter up to a year, a token is offered. There is a token for 18 months, then 2 yrs and each year from 2 yrs up.
Sometimes a cake and celebration is given by the sponsor, other times I've seen it given by the person having the sobriety birthday.
It's a great way to celebrate sobriety! (There's even "virtual" chips on the net!!)
