I just wanted to share a neat experience that took about a month to get going, but became a reality today.
The "Freedom Seekers" Group was born. As the name sounds, the group was formed for those trying to escape from their personal demons. But it also has another meaning, for those behind bars.
Myself and two other regular AAers entered our county jail today and started an AA program.
Through this whole planning stage I was told by different long-timers that is an extremely difficult group to get going and keep going. I heard how many of the people will use it as a means to get out of their cell. Or all we would hear would be how they were framed and shouldn't be in jail at all.
But I was pleasantly surprise. With the inmates there was a dozen of us and in honesty probably 2 of them did it to get out of their cell, but everyone else there wanted help.
It lasted for about an hour and a half and everyone shared. It was powerful and spiritual. I saw tears and I saw fear. And they saw a helping hand.
Thankyou for this, Dave.. Fantastic work! I'm glad you're bringing hope to some who may be with none. Keep up the great contribution. I'm glad it's helping to keep you sober too, Daniella x

that's fantastic Dave. I always wanted to take meetings into a jail, because I was so close to having that kind of experience as I got locked up quite a bit as a juvenile over theft etc...
I wonder now if I was afraid to face that or if I was too lazy to go thru the preparatory paper work to be able to attend. Anyway, it's great work that you're doing there. I hope that you'll inspire me to act on my long awaited interest. I'll bet my sponsor knows someone that doing those meetings.
Jails and institution meetings are soooooo important! For us and for them. I cant wait till I have a year so I can go back to the rehab I just got out of to carry the messsage to them as it was carried to me there! God Bless us all! Love, Allison
