Freedom.......comes in many forms.

I'm driving to work at 3:30am Friday, July 4th. I'm the only car on the road until I'm about 2 miles from my destination. I stop at redlight and a car load of 20something year old guys pulls up beside me. The passenger side window goes down and this drunken 'boy' proceeds to shout at me "Hey baby, follow us to a party!" with a tongue as thick as as concrete block! As I'm rolling up my window and trying to only look straight ahead, the guy vomits in mid sentence, wipes his mouth with the back of his hand and keeps right on talking! I then hear the driver shout "Maaaannnnn! shut up! get back in the window!", the light turns green and we both drive off. I watched them pull into an apartment complex and park. I prayed the driver was not intoxicated  and that they had reached their final destination.

Upon getting to work I had the realization of how 'free' I actually was.  Free from the bondage of alcohol. Free to be able to volunteer for an early morning shift so others with families and small children could have the day off. Free from worrying about how I was going to get home and if I did end up driving, getting a DUI. Free from that horrible, agonizing hangover that "boy" must have gone through.

I am thankful to my HP,  the members of AA  & all of you here for giving me all these freedoms.  What a gift! It's wonderful to be sober today.......and to be free of alcohol.

Thanks Doll.
It is great to get these reminders and to be thankful not to be there!!!!! I had a Huge reminder of what an idiot I used to be the other day>>>>

A friend of the family came around to borrow money. My hubby and me were gone and my 16 yr old gave her $3.00 for "gas so she could cash her check" Come to find out she went to 2 other 'friends" houses with the same excuse. Well, we all know each other and her addiction problems.

One of the friends called her husband and told him what was going on....He said "shes burned alot of bridges and he doesnt know what to do" She was in an outpt rehab and still drinks as her addiction is coke.... Long story, we also confronted her when she came back to pay our daughter. Wired on coke, saying she had 30 days, total denial!

Just reminded me of the times I misused my friendships and embarrassed myself and family over trying to catch that buzz! Made me sad but thankful Im where I am today!!!

I agree...WHAT A GIFT!!!!!!
