A.A. Thought for the Day

The new life can't be built in a day. We have to take the program slowly, a little at a time. Our subconscious minds have to be reeducated. We have to learn to think differently. We have to get used to sober thinking instead of alcoholic thinking. Any one who tries it knows that the old alcoholic thinking is apt to come back on us when we least expect it. Building a new life is a slow process, but it can be done if we really follow the A.A. program. Am I building a new life on the foundation of sobriety?

Meditation for the Day

I will pray daily for faith, for it is God's gift. On faith alone depends the answer to my prayers. God gives it to me in response to my prayers, because it is a necessary weapon for me to possess for the over coming of all adverse conditions and the accomplishment of all good in my life. Therefore, I will work at strengthening my faith.

Prayer for the Day

I pray that I may so think and live as to feed my faith in God. I pray that my faith may grow because with faith God's power becomes available to me.

God grant me the serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference.
--The Serenity Prayer

The principles of our program of recovery help us with everything in our lives. We can use the Serenity Prayer every day to keep us from getting too upset about anything. Saying the Serenity Prayer helps us preserve our serenity enough to move on with our lives.

One Day at a Time reminds us to tell ourselves that we only have to do what we can today, and tomorrow will take care of itself. And Easy Does It helps us to keep from getting mad about things.

We have a new life now, one that requires our full attention and rewards us with serenity, friends, self-respect, and growth.

Today let me remember that Easy Does It.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

When I take another's needs into consideration and bend, I spiritually stretch.
--Helene Lerner-Robbins

We have been told that this is a selfish program. Perhaps that has given us license to be inconsiderate. However, that isn't what the founders meant by a selfish program. While it's true that we must protect our sobriety always, it is never wrong to be kind and considerate toward others. Our kindness to someone else won't ever make us drink! That's what we must keep uppermost in our mind.

Along with helping us maintain abstinence, the program helps us develop a spiritual relationship that can change every aspect of our lives. Coming to believe in a Higher Power and turning to that Power for guidance and comfort allow us to experience hope in every situation. We can enhance our spiritual growth by treating others as we want God to treat us.

My spiritual growth can get a boost today if I get my ego out of the way and help someone else feel better.
