My replacement addiction

I finally found something to replace booze...much like alcohol it makes me smell unpleasant, it makes me light headed, somewhat dizzy and on occasion it even makes me puke.

Running!

I've been running obsessively, much like how I used to drink, and I have to say that it's doing the trick. I just got fed up one day and decided that if I couldn't ingest anything to give me a buzz that I was going to squeeze some feel good hormones out of my brain one way or another. Interestingly enough I'm beginning to realize that some of the same attitudes and beliefs that drove my drinking career can be harnessed for things that are good for me.

Anyhoo, just thought I'd check in and say hi.

Hi.

I like the oxygen plan.

I like to run, but my right knee is pretty shot and if I don't stretch for a super ridiculous long time and walk the first mile my shins tend to hurt.

Swimming, however- I could swim all day. Love it.

Right on TM!   that'll cure your depression too, #1 treatment for it.  Get some good shoes and don't forget to stretch those hammies  smile.gif

When I was in treatment my group counselor told us about a group of recovering junkies in NY that had formed a running club. They ran 5 & 10 Ks and a few of them even ran half and full marathons.
Not one member relapsed while participating in the club.

It's actually a lot of fun...which is surprising since I used to get winded using the television remote control.

I'm developing an new interest in my health. I'm even considering trying vegetables =)

Well done, Tipsy. It's amazing what we can get into once we move that soul~destructive 'hobby' out of the way. I'm smoke~free 10wks, been bending yoga~style & controlling my sugar intake. Got back in the pool for a few lengths at the weekend too & hope to do more swimming as we go. I need to fix a puncture so I can get cycling to & from work this week.

I've got my next sights on a 5k run in September which would be amazing for me especially since I hate running! I love the sense of achievement though & I've got great confidence that with the right amount of work I'll be able to do it. There's a few close women in my life who are also interested to run so plenty of motivation & support there. Let's go for it, Tipsy! Get registered at a race & give it your goalsetting best ;) Good luck, Champ! Danielle x
