Live on Stage?

Good morning all.

Last night I went to see a great band from 15-20 years ago called the Pogues (Irish music)

The lead singer staggered onto stage holding a litre bottle of whisky, hardly able to speak let alone sing. He just about managed the whole show without falling over, or breaking the microphone by dropping it twice, eventhough he thought he was in Liverpool not Manchester! Never before have I seen someone looking so ill, he looked like he should have been in a hospital.

Why am I telling you this? surely it's not relevent to this board?

It is.

The reason I am telling you this is it was a reminder to me of how it could have been had I carried on with drinking. Alcohol has all but destroyed Shane the singer. We are so lucky that we have taken the option of not drinking. Whatever our other problems may be, we must always be thankful that we have made the right decision about drink. For us it's not too late.

Hope you all have a good day.

Best wishes.

Chris.

I've had similar experiences....One of my old haunts was a bar (duh!) that showcased a friend of mine who is local talent.  Well,I still go every now & then, & don't drink.  I see some of my old friends and it always amazes me to see how much alcohol affects them & sometimes ruins the evening.....  Couples getting into pithy fights, obnoxious behavior, etc.  That used to be me...

there but the grace of God, right?

I'm so grateful that I am on a different path now...with more serenity in my life...

BTW, the act I see is mostly AA & drink non-alcoholic beer (that's a whole other debate).

All in all, it's mostly a positive experience for me.

I'd be interested to know other peoples views on alcohol free beer. I drink it because I get bored of endless glasses of water, coke or mugs of coffee, I can't stand tea although some of the herbal ones are ok.

I see nothing wrong with it because it is alcohol free and it is alcohol that I have the problem with.

All comments welcome!

Have a good night / day.

Chris.

Well, I just have to say...  that it is not too late for Shane...  it is not hopeless, anymore than it was hopeless for me when I thought it was. At every meeting I go to we have a moment of silent prayer for those still sick and suffering. Don't write him off yet.

Good morning guys. That post Chris, brings back a few remember whens.:)

Like drinking, while on Antibuse, at a large Arena dance, turning purple, heart almost giving up --three guys taking me to a hospital, where death was almost not an option.

or

Doing cartwheels at another dance at the age of 37, and a cousin comming up to me, and mentioning that I was embarassing a lot of people. I thought he was joking at the time.

Or pitching in a league ball game, when I couldnt even see home plate, and had to be carried off of the field.

No problems there hu?

But For The Grace Of God.

Near Beer? Well I cant do it, because I know where it would lead to. But I do know a few that do drink "near beer" and thats their business. Its not up to me to judge them.

Have a good night and day Guys. Keep on Truckin>:)

Well, I'll be buggered... have never considered non-alcoholic beer????

You have that in the states and uk?

I have never heard of this. We do have a brand of non-alcoholic wine (sold in supermarkets) but I have never seen beer. This country needs such a thing, I think.... at least an option for those trying to ease up etc.

...Even if it is just used to help people understand whether they are drinking for the taste or the effect.

...Not that I'd drink it either Phil. I drank more than my fair share of the good stuff, and I never ever liked the taste of it!

Does it actually sell? I would like some feedback on this. Am looking for a new venture... I wonder how tricky it is to make sure it's NOT alcoholic.

It's kind of strange we don't have it... being the beer guzzling capital of the world... maybe it was sent back by the customs folk. I can just see some turkey saying, "Uh-oh.. now us Aussies won't be needing that, defect it!"

I wonder if I could make it... I could have stumbled across just the product I've been looking for... and it would all be thanks to my mate Cabbagehead....

*wanders off with the calculator*

Hi Nic. The stuff we have in England is called Kaliber and is brewed by Guinness. It's made in the same way as normal beer and then has the alcohol removed by a process called reverse osmosis. I've heard it is expensive to make, and the alcohol tax still has to be paid on it eventhough it's alcohol free.

Even worse it tastes like stale rats P*** most of the time so I wouldn't recommend trying to make it at home! Can't really see it taking off in Australia.

Best wishes.

Chris.

Shane has looked like that for years - what he needs is a good dentist - I bet he has a lot more mates and a lot more money than I do. So who is right and who is wrong?

Ha ha, Shane needs a dentist thats better than good!

He may have a lot more mates and a lot more money, but are his mates real or just 'hangers on' and how much money would he have if he didn't try to drink all of Scotlands whisky!

Have a good day Stan, your on the right path now. Good to have another Brit here!

Best wishes.

Chris.
