I have noticed that there are several new people on the board, which is fantastic - and it is great to see the elderstatesmen/women still on the board also. Well, thought I would drop a few lines to let you know that I am still here and still sober. I have been busy looking and have found a job. Life is treating me very well - with a partner who is also in the program. My gratitude list is quite the size and I wouldn't have it any other way. Things are going very well. I have found myself and I like who I am - like who I see in the mirror. There are new and interesting discoveries each and everyday. Life is good. My son has decided he wants to be a mechanic and my daughter has been accepted into the three universities the she has applied to. I was curious if anyone can help me with a little problem that I have - you see there are a couple of people in my area who claim that they are "cured/recovered" alcoholics. My question - Is it actually possible to be completely "cured/recovered" of this disease and alcoholism?

Welcome back, Jeanie. I'm glad you sound happy & settled. Well done to your children in their journey too. Bless y'all! I agree with Phil. Sometimes there can be controversy in the rooms when people declare themselves as recovered. Differing opinions can get heated cuz some don't want to have that attitude as seen as cocky or egotistical cuz we can't afford that either but I don't think it's ever truly meant in that way (Not for long!) People will do what they want to do anyways & I don't think it's worth getting caught up in taking this statement entirely literally. As written in the BB, I believe it's a recovery from a hopeless state of mind & body too. Shouldn't we hope so! It's also contingent on keeping ourselves in fit spiritual condition 1Day@aTime for that daily reprieve. That's my understanding. Happy Sober Day! Danielle x

If you think that "this man" is invasive, why post his videos? He's entitled to his opinion elsewhere. Maybe some one else forced him to go to meetings, but that's not a concern of AA. "The only requirement for membership is a desire to stay sober" and it's assumed that the person wants to be there. But posting these videos here is pointless. This message board is a place where people discus getting sober and working the program, not whether the program is defective or someones negative personal opinions of it. That would be like going to a motorcycle message board and talking about your dislike for motorcycles, which would be "trolling".
It was also very random to introduce yourself and post these in someone else's thread. I would suggest that you delete this post, and start a new thread introducing yourself, and starting a topic that might be of interest to the board. Or, more importantly, something to do with getting or staying sober. Feel free to talk about your own recovery, ask questions ect..
