Anybody else experience this? It sucks. February is one of the hardest months for me. Not merely in staying sober, but just in functioning to a decent capacity. It is very dark here in Ohio most days from November through the middle of April. That is a long time to be inside and in hybernation mode.
Just wondering if anyone here has any healthy pick-me-up tips. I am considering getting a light box. I am also considering getting some higher watt bulbs in the house... but I don't want to blow anything out!! LOL.... With more light, I will see all the dirt and dust around here and have greater challenges.... LOL What's a girl to do?????????

go lay in tanning bed, and go to mall, they bright lights lol. Or move to Florida, st. pete boasts 360 days of sunshine a year. And yes it affected me when I lived in Va. I got depressed ever fall knowing that winter was coming. I worked outsid for 14 years, it was dark when I went to work and dark when I got home
As Joni and I live near each other, small world eh?, I feel her pain. But must say its been a bit sunny lately even tho its cold! My daughter has a dance to go to this weekend and we had free tanning coupons. Have hit the "electric beach" a few times and must say it feels sooo good! (except for the burnt parts I wont mention!!!haha) But hey, no tan lines!!!!! And, tan wrinkles look better!!!!
I think there are different bulbs you can buy to enhance your serotonin...Maybe get one in the area where you study! You'll be smarter AND feel better!
enjoy the fake rays!!!! Lani

Joni. Its 3am, quick answer Vitamin D. In february 60% of us are deficient. If your a womman the numbers go up another ten percent and of course the numbers slide up with the latitude. We have quit drinking milk, we use sunscreen, we work inside, for dozens of reasons the vitamin d added to milk is no longer working.
400 iu a day 800 is better, toxicity somewhere between 4000 and 10000 though no research.
Cheap source cod liver oil. Bought 1000 mg Norwegian codliver oil for 4 dollars and 43 cents. Each is 50%. I took two and feel like I'm in sunshine so much I might just body surf down a snowdrift. It was a beautiful night. the snow sparkles like diamonds. Its down to 5 and still dropping blah blah blah.
Try it, works for me. I should have thought of this sooner
this might be the same Article that turned me on to this.
I'm on the west coast where we often get weeks and weeks of no sun and rain. S.A.D. is only a small part of what's going on here. The last few days it's been really sunny and people have been flocking to the parks, the beach and for those who aren't into hiking or jogging, down to any corner to one of the 15 kazillion Starbuks we have to talk with friends and people watch.
For me, the looks on everyone's faces and the skip in their step, brings us all together as having survived another day. Sort of like how the program works with me.
Going for a walk and talking with friends always seems to make a difference.
Tugboat hit the nail on the head. Dr. Sanjo Gupda was just talking about Vit. D last week.
Another good rememdy is Vitimen FL. St. Pete Beach
I've been of this treatment for 16 years now and I just don't get depressed anymore, if fact I long for those cloudy rainy days, we just don't get enough of them
I am definitely going to try Vit D... thanks Tuggboat and Doll!!
Dean, I just got BACK from FL... I was there for 9 days and returned Jan 3rd.... 80 degrees and sunny the entire time. I think I should retire with my dad in the winters!!!
Need Light, Need Vit D, and need social interaction!!!
Thanks again, guys and gals... you ROCK!!!
Hey Sept. 19... you in Seattle? I used to live there......
Lani- I still have 4 tanning appointments I had forgotten about, left over from when I went to Fla.... thanks for the reminder!!
Now, like a good Alcoholic with S.A.D., time for an afternoon nap..... LOL

The 19th it is. It was originally on the 17th but I got really lucky on my first day and got into a heated argument with my then girlfriend and immediately relapsed.
Greatest thing she ever could have done for me because when I sobered up 2 days later I realized ... Aha I really do belong here because all I know is if things don't go my way I load out .. then I really got it because I knew once and for all that kind of thinking was going to kill me. Clean and sober ever since
As for that poor girl she's still on that river in Egypt trying to paddle upstream.
Very cool house! No pool tho!!!! And you'll need a dock for a boat!!!!! Oh and grass!!!! Good luck it looks very nice!!!!! Lani-You still suck!!!
