No, not the Beastie Boys' song.... LOL

I mean in my recovery. I have at times before gotten so wrapped up in "achieving" outside of AA, that I have at times slacked severely on the things that keep me sober. I can't go through this again, guys.

I am taking Certification Exams soon for my degree, and getting ready to go out and do my clinical studies. AA has afforded me this opportunity. AA has given me the momentum and the courage to better myself. And I will not let Alcoholism take it all away from me... not this time.

With all the excitement of drawing near completion of my education, I have had to take a long hard look at what I am NOT willing to take for granted this time. In Novemeber, I relapsed. Had to push back my last quarter in school, which I am finishing now. One more trip to the clink would have runied it all. My past infractions have been far enough in the past now, that I have a second chance. And I am not going to blow it for the sake of alcohol.

I have committed to more responsibilities in my home group in order that I stay CONNECTED during this exciting, yet potentially dangerous (head-wise) time in my life. I have the keys to the church for the meeting all month. I am doing it again next month too. I have to set up the whole meeting, and make the coffee, and put out the literature, and chair. I have to tear down with help afterward. I have to come early, and stay late. And my Sponsor will be with me every step of the way, and to and from the meeting every week.

We study the Big Book there. We are reading the stories right now. I get to relate to the  people in those stories, and to other alcoholics at the meeting every week. I get reminded of what I am doing and WHY i am lucky enough to be at this point in my life.

This is my plan, and it goes along with AA's Plan, for once in my life. I am ready to say goodbye to Self Sabotage!! I have the TOOLS this time!!!!!!

"lead and they will follow..." That is what this program is about.....following the examples,
ect of others. May others follow you!!!!!!
Good luck on the exams. My daughter is only at the onset ...still working on the associates.
With the baby now she is finding it hard to find "study time". As she has in the past, I know
she'll do it. You will do just fine.

By the way.....are you bracing yourself for yet another blast of winter's delight. Here in
little ole Illinois we are expecting to get hit with sleet and snow once again starting tonight.
First though we are under flood watches...... Last time, basement flooded and had to get it
pumped out. UHG, UHG, UHG! Where is summer? LOL

ACK!!! MORE bad weather? (Should I really be surprised, though?? LOL) I will check, because my hubby needs to know has he drives a big tow truck for a living..... snow storms translate in this house to a mixed-blessing. I worry about him out there on the icy roads, but then, I also get some time to myself!! LOL

My basement floods, very mildly, like a puddle or two, once in awhile, even though I am at the top of a hill. there is a problem with the drains from the spouting, when they go down into the ground and travel beneath the lawn. A couple of them are crushed inside the ground, so the water backs up and spills over the side of the spouting along the roof. When we have this repaired in the spring, and the water flows AWAY from the foundation, it will solve the problem. This is something you might want to check on your own house...

Glad to hear your daughter is achieving so much in her life!!! You must be very proud of her. :o)

Hi Girls:
Joni, I am so proud of you digging in with both feet! Trust me, it will be so worth it! The chaos sounds exciting! I love that your getting invovled. It is true the best part of the meeting is before and after! (as long as your not the last to leave and lock your keys in the car!!!!)

I too am ready for spring!!!!! Someone commented that they wont bitch about raking leaves again! (random thought) At least the sun is shining!!!!

Keep up the good work! You'll be so proud when youre done!!!
