TAKING ACTION

Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are
being fulfilled among us--sometimes quickly, sometimes
slowly. They will always materialize if we work for
them.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 84

One of the most important things A.A. has given me, in
addition to freedom from booze, is the ability to take
"right action." It says the promises will ALWAYS
materialize if I WORK for them. Fantasizing about them,
debating them, preaching about them and faking them
just won't work. I'll remain a miserable, rationalizing
dry drunk. By taking action and working the Twelve Steps
in all my affairs, I'll have a life beyond my wildest
dreams.

The AA Promises

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through.

We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.

We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.

We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.

No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.

That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.

We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.

Self-seeking will slip away.

Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.

Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.

We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.

We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Are these extravagant promises? We think not.

They are being fulfilled among us - sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.

They will always materialize if we work for them.

Good morning:
Had to include the promises so I could review them and do an inventory of whether or not they are coming true for me. Have been to a couple lead meetings where the person would go down the list of the twelve steps and comment on them, where they were and where they are. Enjoyed that format.

My challenge to all of us today is to review the "promises" and really look to see how they are coming true to us today..... Enjoy your homework assignment!!!!!! Lani

Another Gift/Tool the program shows us is that we can have what you have if we are willing to do what you did to get it. Works for sobriety, works for most things in life. So the question isn't "can I have it" it's "how much do I want it and and I willing to put the time and effort to get it. Typically we want the result but not the blood sweat and tears.

That was me, Dean-O! I tried for years to get sober through osmosis - LOL..... Like everything else in my life I wanted it (whatever "IT" was as the time) but then when I got it I realized there was work involved to keep it - wasn't willing to work for it.....wasn't willing to go to any lengths. Thank God I'm not like that today when it comes to my sobriety. However, that being what I consider a Character Defect makes it difficult for me to really know in my heart what I want and what I'm willing to work for in the other areas of my life....
