Even then, as we hew away, peace and joy will still elude us. That's the place so many of us A.A. oldsters have come to. And it's a hell of a spot, literally. How shall our unconscious--from which so many of our fears, compulsions and phony aspirations still stream--be brought into line with what we actually believe, know and want! How to convince our dumb, raging and hidden "Mr. Hyde" becomes our main task. THE BEST OF BILL, pp. 42-43
Regular attendance at meetings, service and helping others is the recipe that many have tried and found to be successful. Whenever I stray from these basic principles, my old habits resurface and my old self also comes back with all its fears and defects. The ultimate goal of each A.A. member is permanent sobriety, achieved One Day at a Time.

On one occassion is my sobriety thus far have a missed a string of meetings. I was working the night shift and worked 60+ hours in 5 days. My butt was whooped and I literally slept and worked. Could I feel the Mrs jekyll/Mrs Hyde coming out in me. Sure I prayed, briefly, read the BB, briefly, and half assed my way thru my recovery.
What a bad spot I put myself in! I started feeling sorry for myself, isolating and was just generally in bad spirits! I know today, I will not work that schedule again! My sobriety is WAY to precious! Its only by, for me, doing as the above stated that I can have any type of freedom from this vicious disease!!!!
My ultimate goal IS: permanent sobriety!!! Lani

the biggest barriers to happiness and success are negative thinking, holding on to old ideas, holding on to fear, living in the past, pessimism, and ingratitude. Whatever it is that you're thinking about, you will get more of via the law of attraction. Please read the book or see the movie "The Secret". Here's the first 20 minutes of the movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b1GKGWJbE8
Hey Deany meany: So, I checked out the 20 min movie and was quite impressed. Will also sign up for the study course. So, is this a movie I get at the video store?
Its funny, my husband and I were having the conversation today about him hating his job. Said he would rather stand up against a wall and be pellted with stones! Me, being miss positive I am, told him there is a reason youre there! You need to humble yourself and get thru this and better things will come your way once you accept that! He says he prays to his HP for something better, a new job, a different job. Informed him that he needs to pray for "Gods will for him not something specific" I think youve mentioned that in a previous post regarding getting work and not being so specific!
He commented, "I want to do that but Im afraid my HP will misunderstand me and think Im okay where Im at!!!" hee hee.....
Im glad you shared this again because I kinda forgot about the movie. Will try to get it and share it with him!
Positive thinking! Ever notice if you walk down the street with a smile on your face others seem to reflect that back to you! (or they think were nuts!!)
One more comment: I always thought non-alkies should try AA...This is almost parrellel to what we are learning to live like in AA. So its a chance for others to get what we have! What a wonderful concept!!!! Thanks, Lani

yes it's available at the movie rental store. Your smile analogy was right on. This book/movie about the "law of attraction" talks about exactly that. What ever you focus on, you'll get more of. If you're complaining about being victimized a lot of the time, then you'll attract that. If we focus on being grateful for what we have, then more of that will come to you.
For things that we don't have yet, it suggests that you act as if you do have it already(fake it till you make it, sound familiar?) Being grateful and thankfor for it in advance. For example, if we want a love in our life, we need to recognize that we do have love in our life and be grateful for it, and more love will come into our life. And there's more to it, with visualization, using vision boards or "vision mapping". This goes hand in hand (or is the same as) writing goals. One of the people in the movie set a monetary goal of making $100,000 that year (in january). He wrote a check to himself for $100,000 and glued it to the ceiling right above his bed, so it was the first thing he saw every morning. This guy was a strugling writer with no book deal, and none on the horizon. He wasn't able to pay his bills and had a lot of fear. He decided to ignore the fear and at the end of that year he had a book deal and had made $99,650. So the next year he took the same check and added a zero to the end of it, and he made $1million that year. Jim Carrey, a believer in this process, did the same thing when he was a lesser known actor, with a $10,000,000 check to himself. Later that year he was offered a movie roll for that exact amount.
We basically do this when we pray daily for sobriety. We can ask for prosperity and love as well.
Didnt realize if I posted one more time I'd be an old timer so here goes........Thanks for pointing that out to me meany!!!! Gonna see if it works....Should have spent the time writing out a check to myself!!! Lani
