Today I have two years of continuous sobriety and I can't quite believe it! When I first came to the rooms of AA I didn't think that it was remotely possible for me.
But, by getting a sponsor, working the steps, attending regular meetings, reading AA literature, getting into service with AA and with help from my Higher Power I have done it one day at a time. Instead of ignoring suggestions and thinking that I knew better, I listened to the 'old-timers' and did what was suggested to me. It wasn't always easy, but it has worked so far.
Now, I have my self-respect, self-pride and a sense of self-worth back. I value every sober day that I am given and make time to give thanks for this gift every day. My life has changed out of all recognition.
If you are new to sobriety, or just unsure whether AA would work for you, just give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If this wonderful program of recovery can work for me, then it can work for you, too.
Thank you to everyone here on MIP for making it such a wonderful message board.
Have a great day.
Carol

Carol, what a milestone, and a reminder that this program works if I work it! Congratulations!

Aw what the heck... I can't resist, when your anniversary is the same as mine!
As far as anonymity, anybody who knows me well enough to recognize the sobriety date would recognize me anyway.
Nineteen years on the 6th....
Absolutely amazing.
I've been sober longer than I went to school, longer than I lived anyplace, longer than I held any one job, longer than I was married, and... longer than I drank!
I sure didn't think things would turn out this way when I walked into my first AA meeting on February 6, 1989.
I even played my bari sax today. Music is another thing that wouldn't be part of my life if I were still drinking. I am surrounded by miracles.
Congrats to you to barisax!!!! What great news! Keep coming back!!!!!
Shoot, Im going to need to be sober 29 more years to achieve what you have! OUCH!!!

Happy Birthday, Barisax! That's Amazing! So well done to you :D It's so strange sometimes to stay sober & live this life without the drink. Absolutely bizarre it seems lol Another reason it's a Goddarn Miracle & why all these wonderful things that happen because we've stayed away from the first drink 1Day@aTime are to be truly grateful for. Happy Sober Day, Barisax! Thanks for being such an Inspiration, Danielle x
