Day 4 now nicotine free!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm using 21mg patches.
I'm drastic, yes, but I've jumped in with 2 feet and after 30 days sober I had to do it! I found myself smoking 2 packs a day once I quit drinking!!!
Now, I feel I'll be able to attain a better spiritual connection without the practicing addictive mind on cigarettes. I used to switch between chew and cigs, like an alcoholic switches types of alcohol in the futile control game.
I'm a little on edge, but it feels good to smell clean and not smell foul. I don't have to fragment my day into work between smoke breaks! Fragmentation is not for me anymore. I've been addicted to nicotine for 20 years.
I smoked for 25 years, and was up to over 2 packs a day. I woke up in the middle of the night and had a cig, and first thing in the morning too. Finally, my father got lung cancer from smoking the same year I was diagnosed with emphysema. Because I had seen in the hospital, disease from smoking,, faces all blue, gasping, oxygen tank, and all,,, people who turned off the oxygen tank so they could have a butt!! Horrible! Not me I said,, and I quit that year. Now, when I see how expensive they are my rare cravings are cured by the price of them.
There are a few things that I found very helpful:
1. find something else to do that is hand to mouth,, like pretzels, not candy.
2. remember that the fits only last a few minutes,, so get busy for those ffew minutes.
3. put the money saved in a jar, and do spend it at the end of the week.
4. find other things to do at the times that a break is taken, or at trigger times.
After 1 week,, notice some changes already. After 2 weeks,, feel more energy, taste food again. 3 weeks, nicer teeth, fresher breath. 4 weeks,, clearer head.
love in recovery,
amanda
