Today's Gift.

When fate hands us a lemon, let's try to make lemonade.
--Dale Carnegie

Good fortune is built on misfortune. By losing a race we learn what mistakes to avoid next time we run. A burglar may make us install the lock that will keep out a murderer. Each time a toddler falls is a lesson in how to walk.

We can never assume that, because things are not going the way we want, they are not following a better plan. God is a better manager than we can hope to be. If things aren't shaping up the way we like, let's wait with curiosity to see that better things are in store for us. Let's look for lights in the darkness and follow them to the bright day that always will follow. We will remember our lessons of misfortune with gratitude.

What can I learn from delay today?

And another thought for today..

"If something doesnt need fixed? Don't fix it,"

Lately the light at the end of my tunnel has been turned off due to budget cuts and my reality check is bouncing all over the place.  Just my share at this moment in time.

Thanks, Phil!!

You always post good ones....

Dunno if you saw any of my posting about losing my job a few weeks ago, but that is exactly the tack I took when it was going down. My first inclination was, "WHAAA!!!???? I am losing a job in SOBRIETY!!!???" (As if that exempts me from the average corporate downsizing... LOL ..where's my medal of honor...LOL)

I made a conscious decision, and prayed to NOT be resentful, and to try to see the positives in it. Neither my husband nor I panicked, which is real growth.

The lemons?    There's a big chunk of household income gone.

The lemonade?  We aren't hugely in debt, due to me making a lot of financial amends early on.

I am receiving a small unemployment check for right now, as my company would not think of appealing it, due to the 'unfair' circumstances.

I have more time for meetings and 12th Step work than I have ever had, and diligently paying up my 'AA Insurance'...

It is summer.

This gives me a chance to go out and look for the direct-patient-care job, PART TIME, that I REALLY WANT and need so that I can be more active in my own recovery.

I can just see me, even a year ago, having lost this job.... I would be frantic, in fact, I would already have found something else that again took up 60 hours of my time a week, on top of being a wife and homemaker and recovering alcoholic and sponsor. Some people do it all just fine, but I was getting OH so complacent. I was in more danger than I realized.

So hat's off to lemonade!!!!!

And thanks for another great thought for TODAY!!!

Every crisis is an opportunity. (I thought that was Claude Anshin Thomas but it turns out that particular quote is attributed to Victoria Principal. )
