Are all-season tires suitable for everyday driving in Edmonton?

I have always liked the idea of using one set of tires for most of the year, especially when changing and storing two sets becomes inconvenient. Edmonton weather makes the decision less obvious, though. Winter can be severe, while the rest of the year has very different road conditions. For normal city driving, are all-season tires a reasonable compromise?

I think the biggest factor is where and how often the car is driven. Someone who stays within Edmonton and mostly uses maintained roads may have different requirements from someone who drives outside the city every week. All-season tires can be convenient, but I would still compare their winter performance with the conditions the driver actually encounters.

It really depends on how the vehicle is used during winter. I was comparing tire options for Edmonton and checked all-season tires to see how this type fits into local driving conditions. The convenience of keeping one set can be attractive, especially for drivers who mainly use cleared city roads and do not regularly travel through severe winter conditions. I would still compare the actual tire specifications rather than assuming every all-season model performs the same way. For someone who drives frequently in heavy snow or very low temperatures, a dedicated winter setup may make more sense.
