Most Bizzare A.A. Meeting I've Ever Attended

Went to a meeting last night. It was this ladies first meeting ever. Okay, first step meeting, right? The guy chairing the meeting asked her to tell us a little bit about herself so we could help her out with the first step. She goes on to tell us that she is strictly an Marijuana addict. No problem with alcohol! Hmmmmmm......

Nobody told her to get lost, thank god. Turns out she had been pretty far down the ladder towards a bottom. Very surprising. I spoke to her and she started responding to alot of stuff I was saying while I was talking. Had to inform her about cross-talking at meetings. Did it in a nice way, said it's important to let one talk and it's most important to listen.

It was just a strange meeting. There's a bunch of people there that don't have a problem with drugs. I'm not one of 'em. I told her about my pot use, which was pretty bad, but never caused serious problems. Just led me to bigger and better things, or so I thought!

Any of you guys been through any kind of meeting like this? I don't really know any meeting times for N.A. meetings and I don't know if I would of told her about them because around here I haven't been to pleased with that program. Told her to come back tonight for a C.A. meeting which is pretty good and deals with all drugs, so......

I'm rambling.........shutting up!..........

Howdy bud...

Until I was 14 years old...I thought my name was "Shut Up"  :) um...hmmm...there have been a number of instances, since..that Ive been addressed by that name also..

We have people with other addictions, besides alcohol...attend our AA meetings..and we welcome them..

There are only 5 NA meetings within 7500 square miles..

However...we do read at the beginning of the AA meeting..that we keep our shares..pertaining to alcohol only..and the tools of AA...because other addictions are outside issues..

So...anyone without a problem with alcohol...usuall share on a step..or topic..without bringing the outside addiction, into conversation...they take what they need and leave the rest...it seems to work well..

You have a good day eh...

NA peeps attend our Meetings too...frankly, most do because our Meetings are so much warmer than the NA Meetings around here.

We're pretty liberal around these parts and in AA too. I myself am a recovering addict/alcoholic and announce myself that way. I have been to other parts of the country to meetings and have had some people make a stink about it. I don't see it as very open-minded. seems the stigma with drugs riles some AA's up! i just don't know what to tell the heroin or narcotics users b/c I never did those out of fear I'd become an addict! Peace

It also says in the book "language of the heart" that Ibelieve it is pg 222 that the group has all options,  but the individual has none.  When I am in a meeting and someone talks abou t things other than alcohol,  after the meeting I direct them to N/A I too am not as satisfied with that fellowhip but i stil have to let someonelse come to their own conclusions about that fellowship.
