Big Book Study format

Hi and welcome!

I go to 2 womens book studies once a week and this is what they do

The first two weeks we read out of the 12 x 12. First the step of the month then the tradition of the month. The last two weeks we read out of the Big Book. First whatever chapter we are on and then a story from the back of the book. The person who is chairing the meeting chooses the story.

The other meeting is one we just started doing so we started at the beginning of the Big Book and read a chapter every week for the first three weeks then the last week of the month we read out of As Bill Sees It and have open discussion.

I really love these meetings, I know around here we don't have enough Big Book meetings!

I've been to a bunch of big book studies and I really like the format for the one I go to now. We read strictly from the Big Book. Instead of the preambe we read the First Forward to the First Edition. It's pretty much the same as the preamble. Then How It Works from pgs. 58 & 59. And of course we close with A Vision For You from pg. 164, last two paragraphs.

I like it because that's probably how it was done in the beginning, when A.A. started up.

During big book studies, I use my big book as a text book. I write all over it and highlight, write questions in the margin, etc., etc.. It is a work book for me.
