When anyone, anywhere reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there. And for that, I am responsible.
This is the AA responsibility statement. I have recited this statement before. I have not been very good at putting it into practice, however. Judging by what I have seen on this message board in the past few. YEARS Im not the only one struggling with the incredible difficulty of putting this statement into practice. It is easy to lapse into selfishness and self-centeredness. I am certain that Im not the only one who feels guilty when checking in and seeing that a suffering newcomer has posted on this board, only to have their cry for help met with nothing. Time is of the essence. It does no good to post a response months later, stating your hope that they got the help they needed, except perhaps to salve your own feelings. When AA meetings become defunct, they at least have the good sense to shut the meeting down, to take it out of the published schedule So that a newcomer will not show up expecting a meeting, and finding only a locked up building.
Its my opinion that this message board has become defunct, and this is not much different than a defunct meeting. In my opinion, one of two things should happen: (1) The board should be archived, so that people can read past posts but not post new ones; or (2) long-time members such as myself should take responsibility for logging in DAILY and checking for any newcomer posts regardless of how infrequent they now have become.
Just the opinion of one person who was greatly helped by this forum in my own early sobriety.
