What type of meeting should I go to for my first one?

Hey everyone. I'm new to alcoholics anonymous and am wondering where to find a good aa meeting in florida? I mean, I know they're all over the place down here, but I don't know the difference between open, closed, big book, step, etc. Thanks in advance!

An OPEN meeting allows the recovering alcoholic's friends/family members to attend, so they can get the essence of what AA is about.
A CLOSED meeting is allowed only for those who identify as alcoholics in recovery.
BIG BOOK meetings are usually closed, and the topics of discussion come from the book 'Alcoholics Anonymous', also known as the 'Big Book'.
STEP STUDY meetings are usually closed, and are guides to suggestions for recovery found in the book 'Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions'.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum, TB.

Congrats on trying recovery. You can go to any open or closed AA meeting. That's what I did in the beginning.

To find a meeting, search for intergroup AA Miami (or Tampa, etc).

You can use the search button here near the top of the screen to find threads about types of meetings.

How are you doing now? We are rooting for you...
