I'm serious this time. I'm going to 90 meetings in 90 days, get a sponsor, yadda yadda yadda. I'm also going to do something different...I'm going to tell everyone I know that I am a degenerate alky. I think that'll make have some accountability.
I'm trying to think of other things I can differently than the other 6000 times I've tried to stop drinking. Any suggestions?
Ya know, it was only when I did the 90 in 90 commitment that I was able to grasp this way of life and begin to love it ... and that turned into around 300 meetings in 300 days ... then 4 or 5 a week for 5 years or so ... then cancer altered my routine but MIP allowed me to stay active in my recovery ... I'm very grateful to have been a part of AA all this time ... it very much 'saved my life' ...
Love you guys and God Bless, Pappy

When I came into the AA program, I was in a fog. I really didn't have the capacity to understand the program. But I did not want to drink again. So, as suggested to me, I went to meetings .... to learn what others were doing to stay and live sober. I. did get the idea that there was hope for me.
I kept track of the meetings I attended. I wanted to make 90 meetings in 90 days. But after about 2 months I could see that I probably wouldn't make it--due to health and work issues. I was pretty worried about that. But I got the advice that the number 90 isn't magic. There isn't any science or history to support it. The main thing is to make a commitment to a program and to give AA a chance to work.
I went to 72 meetings in my first 3 months. But I stayed sober.
After my 90 days, I kept going to meetings at about the same rate for a while. Then kept going to about 4/week for about 20 years. I figured I would never get the chance to go to 90 meetings in 90 days. Then I got too busy for that many meetings, so I reduced them. I got down to 1 meeting a week. Sometimes I missed that one.
I eventually figured out that I was on a dangerous path. So I recommited myself to AA and I started chairing meetings again and I went to two meetings daily whenever I could. Pretty soon I was going to 12 meetings consistently. Then I counted up my meetings and realized--I had finally done a 90/90. I did many more after that.
Today, my schedule is 4 meetings a week, consistently. Works for me. I'm not planning on doing 90/90 anytime soon. But maybe I will.
My suggestion is to go to as many meetings as you can for the time being. Don't negelect other responsibilities like family and work.
But instead of trying to knock over ninety meetings in ninety days, try to find a good sponsor and knock over twelve steps in twelve weeks.
I heard a speaker the other day who said the way to get this done is to make sure the action stays ahead of the head. Best advice I ever heard, Worked for me. Most people come unstuck because they pause to think, to try and understand. Take the action and the understanding will follow.
