Im 3-1/2 weeks into sobriety so far. Been using snuff for over 25 years. I need to have a back surgery, and the doctor will only do the surgery if I quit tobacco. Seems like a tall order for someone like me whos so new to sobriety. Any tips?
Yes, it does seem like a tall order for sure ... My Heart surgeon told me to stop the cigarettes or his work on my heart would all be in vain ... and my Cancer Doc said to stop eating sweets or my cancer would return and 'take me out' ...
My best friend died 3 years ago because he'd switched to snuff because of pressure not to smoke in public ... the snuff caused cancer in his mouth ... much of his jaw had to be replaced and he lost all his teeth ... the Chemo only prolonged his suffering ... (I'm still recovering from Chemo and I can attest to the very cruel treatment this procedure is) ... So, all I can say is you need to decide if you want 'health' over 'sickness' ... We worked ourselves into this corner and we must decide what we want for the future ...
Ask your Dr. what he suggests as a method to get off the snuff ... you're do'n great without the alcohol and you'll do much better without the snuff ... after the withdrawal period you'll feel much, much better ... AND, your back will heal much faster too ...
Love ya man and God Bless, Pappy

I don't know about snuff other than it's addictive....and harmful.
I have heard some reasonable-sounding advice over the years which basically stated that handling one recovery at a time can be an effective way to approach the tobacco and alcohol problem. For some folks it's th only way.
My signature has some good advice on the subject....
I tried Smokey Mountain herbal/alfalfa and corn silk snuff and it worked. I was grouchier than hell for about a week, but made it through. Tobacco free for 5+years.
congrats on the 3 1/2 weeks! By this writing is probably more like four and half weeks. Don't know about stuff but having smoked 30 years never could get past two or three days without a cigarette until one day about 14 years ago I found myself in a hospital Needless to say I couldn't smoke. Went cold turkey on the cigarette several months later got sick as a dog having tossed him since.
I suspect there's a Commonality between snuff and cigarettes called nicotine, and that withdrawal could be a pain in the awes to say the least. Only suggestion I have to offer, don't know If it would help you but after 14 years I'm still going to to toothpicks like crazy!
For me personally quitting drinking was not the same Adventure as quitting cigarettes. But by the grace of God I'm coming up on six months sober. No withdrawal like with cigarettes at this point, however the urge for a drop of the creature those shows ugly head from time to time. Wish you all the luck in the world brother with the snuff and pray for your three and half weeks to translate to 3 1/2 decades!
For decades I tried EVERYTHING to break my nicotine addiction...every drug, spray, vape, lozenge, gum, etc. created by man and nothing worked. So I waited until I was going to be away from home for a week and then just popped a little piece of 90% dark chocolate whenever a craving hit me. At night I listened to free hypnosis/guided meditation sessions on Youtube. The routine change made it easier and the dark chocolate really did help curb the cravings. I'm not sure if the hypnosis had an effect but I did find it relaxing and it took my mind off of tobacco.
