hello,  I'm Joe.  I have not had a drink since Feb 4th during the Superbowl.  I have struggled with alcohol most of my adult life and have tried many things to stop. I'm sure there are people here that were where I am now with some advice.  Sure could use some.

Thanks

I would start hitting meetings as often as you can. Its suggested 90 meetings in 90 days. Raise your hand and say you are new and you don't want to drink anymore. Get a big book and start reading it. Do everything it says. You don't have to think anymore, the program is laid out in the book. I know you can recover if you want it above everything else. I used heroin for 20 years and was chronically homeless. When I stopped trying to do it my way and was willing to try the AA program my life changed. Don't give up!!

Welcome, Joebud. We have all reached the point you are at now. It's rough.

Many of us have found recovery--through the help of others like us.

Try a meeting of AA. That's a good start.

Tell us more about you. We're here to help.

I did it like sobercat says it though it wasn't easy or willful from the start.  There were so many in the fellowship that cared for me for this long time and still do.  My sobriety date 2/8/79...Thanks for the memory.   aww  and keep coming back.

Welcome Joebud, ...

Hardest struggle for me when I decided I'd had enough, was practicing the 'Total Honesty' that the AA program insists on ... ... ... I'd lied to myself and everyone else for years ... the meetings were critical for me to get and stay sober ... everyone had been through what I was go'n through and made it much easier for me to recover ....

go to a few meet'ns and find someone you can associate with and that has some good sobriety and ask them to be your sponsor ... they will become your guide through this new journey ...

Love ya and God Bless,
Pappy

Today is my day 1. I'm not religious but can adapt the concepts I guess. I don't drink everyday but when I do ... look out. I don't want to anymore. I don't want to make bad choices at all hours and am tired of feeling like absolute hell the next 2 days after a binge. Joebud, good luck. Wrote down my first meeting appointment just a minute ago.

Welcome LADYRED, ... glad you found us ...

I struggled for years to make the 'change' that would set me free from alcohol ... I nearly died before I surrendered to the AA 'way of life' ... and it literally 'saved my life' ... I'm not particularly religious either and my sponsor told me to pray to a 'higher power' of my choice ... I told him I ain't go'n to do it cause I didn't want to be a hypocrite ... he said do it anyway ... I did ... and it didn't take long before some amazing things happened ... ... ... that was 10 years ago ...

Go to meet'ns ... after a few, get a sponsor ... work the steps ... you'll be amazed before you're half way through ...

Love you and God Bless,
Pappy

This my story too. It amazes me know what I put myself through.

After going to my first AA meeting, I saw that there was hope for me. I saw and heard other people who were living sober. That was proof that I could recover.

You can have hope too, LADYRED.

We are rooting for you.
