This one is tricky. Show you how insidious selfishness is. When I first saw this I thought oh okay now i'm going to be extra grateful because that means more for me. Me Me Me. But that's not how this thing works. Expecting nothing in return is the missing piece.
I think it's very hard to be grateful without giving ... otherwise one would feel odd(maybe guilty) because they may not feel deserving ... ... ...
Personally, I don't 'give' expecting anything in return ... (I did before living the AA way of life) ... maybe go'n through my 3rd bout with cancer has changed the way I see things ... I don't really know, but I have concluded that 'Life really is short' to not help others when the opportunity presents itself ...
