I take full responsibility for it but I'm getting railroaded. First time offense in 24 years of driving. No other incidences ever! Instead of diversion, I'm getting 58/60 days suspended jail time. I have to go to the clink for 48 hours On the weekend so it doesn't mess with my job.
unfortunately I have to submit an sr22. My insurance is going to increase exponentially! I'm so pissed at myself and my actions. I was cordial and polite to the officer. Apparently that doesn't matter. Be aa dick to the cops and refuse a breathalyze! The breathalyzer is what will do me in according to my lawyer. I thought being nice to these dipshit cops would help me. Not so! REFUSE TO BLOW!

This website is for AA related discussions, NOT legal advice. I wouldn't be surprised if this thread is deleted or your post edited. Otherwise, refusing the breathalyzer will usually result in penalties itself and there is usually enough other evidence to convict you, so, IMHO, refusing a breathalyzer test is unwise and I am sure any criminal lawyer will opine the same. In my case, I was arrested for a second offense and beat it because the breathalyzer test was administered 3 hours after my arrest, not because I hadn't committed the crime.
It appears that you are in the right place for your non legal alcohol related problems. But be aware that AA is a program of personal responsibility.... Notice I admitted to or own my behavior?

I don't have many regrets because it all lead to the great life I have today but I kick myself in the ass for the dui.
It was extremely costly, and the hurdles I am currently jumping through (even after 5 years) to get the license back, is mindnumbingly redundant.

Here in Michigan, some meetings have dedicated 1st step tables which are mostly filled with newcomers. I like to sit at 1st step tables because I am reminded what I used to be like and can be like again (and worse), but I am also informed of the current consequences for unlawful drinking behavior. My only DUI conviction around 1980 resulted in a 60 day suspension of license, 3 or 4 hundred dollar fine and a 4 night class, a walk in the park, nay a vacation, compared to today's penalties.

Since we are a bunch o' alcoholics (in recovery) it's no surprise that we have had plenty o' DUI incidents. But they are in the past. They were the consequence of our compulsion to drink and behave inappropriately.
