To be fearless and thorough from the very start.

what part of this does your newcomer ass not understand? That long face about why the meeting didn't work doesn't move me. I am quick to wipe my hands with a lazy one. We don't need nor should we be pampering anyone interested in sobering up permenently.

“Our chief responsibility to the newcomer is an adequate presentation of the program. If he does nothing or argues, we do nothing but maintain our own sobriety. If he starts to move ahead, even a little, with an open mind, we then break our necks to help in every way we can.”

As Bill Sees It, p105

Letter, 1942

In words familiar to most, but no less authoritative:  "If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it--then you are ready to take certain steps."  Alcoholics Anonymous, Chapter 5:  How it Works, 1st paragraph.
