This is quite different than the one in my Avatar ... my hair was come'n out in large clumps, so I shaved my head ... then 1/2 my moustache fell off ... so I shaved the rest off ... funny thing, I haven't shaved for a week now and no beard stubble what-so-ever ??? ... I might get to liking this development, LOL ... Chemo is so fun ... ... ... NOT ...

Hi there Pappy

I didn't realize that you were facing these health issues. I'm primarily a lurker but have gained a treasure trove from your postings. Just wanted to thank you for your commitment and participation on this board.

If you don't mind me asking some very personal questions I'd like to know how you conquered your fear of your diagnosis, surgeries, chemo treatments etc...enough to actually go through with them.

I know that people naturally have these fears and if you can share on that, I'd really appreciate it, brother...

WOW Afella, ...

Thanks for 'following me', and that's some pretty big questions, LOL ...

I drank heavily for the better part of about 30 years ... tried to quit, was unsuccessful and drank about 13 to 15 more years ... in '08  4th rehab was my last, I finally took my life seriously ... and began the road to recovery ... my body was pretty broken down by then ... I'd already went through malignant melanoma surgery, 10 hand surgeries, 2 hydro-cell surgeries ... then came the Prostate cancer and radiation therapy 2 years ago, then 'open heart surgery last year and then cancer returned and is now stage 4 bone cancer, ergo the Chemo therapy ...

What I went through in alcoholic recovery taught me a lifetime of knowledge about 'surrender' and 'letting go' ... meaning the AA program and its steps ... they gave me a whole new attitude and outlook on life with daily 'conscious contact' (prayer) with the God of my understanding, I have no fear of dying ... I take my medicine, go to treatment, tolerate the therapies as best i can and pray to be useful to God for whatever it is He/She has in store for me ...

Did I like these cancer diagnoses??? NO ... but I knew the easy way was acceptance ... (Serenity Prayer) ...God has brought me through 2 cancers already, 3rd time the charm??? ... I put it in His hands ...

Fears??? ... People only fear what they do not wish to understand ... And for me? ... that is 'With God, All Things are Possible' ...

Hope this answers your question, Love ya and God Bless,
Pappy

I Pappy , God put you on this board to help people like myself who do not have the experience and wisdom which you possess. You face every adversity in your life with honesty and courage, you are teaching me as I read these posts , that your belief in God and your adherence to sobriety has made you a stronger person, you not only teach about recovery you teach about life, you are a remarkable person, may God Bless you.

Thanks for the kind words Bunchie, ...

Working the AA steps and alcohol/life recovery has been a learning experience ... One thing it did, was teach me humility ... 'to be teachable' (I still have a ways to go here, LOL) ... and with an 'open mind', I was able to see things with a different pair of glasses ... I've learned much of acceptance, humility, forgiveness, and many, many other things ... all courtesy of AA and the BB ... also the Big BB ... and my sponsor ...

Love ya Bro and God Bless,
Pappy

I am often amazed by people in the fellowship who endure significant challenges of various kinds, including major health issues. I am inspired by all of them, including our Pappy.

I appreciate their limitless capacities for acceptance, calmness and faith.

Thanks for being here Pappy and for all you do for us.

Yes, and THANK YOU Raquel ... cause it's comments like this that feed the 'spirit' in us all ... and gives us all HOPE ... ... ... it's the love like this on the board that shows us that we CAN recover from anything we work together for ... especially when we work and adhere to our AA program of recovery ... because it's a LIFE recovery program ... a spiritual recovery program ...
