Good one. Although if you are a low bottom type, you'd know even nowadays stuff like social media is completely off the grid when we are out there. Even a burner cheap $10 phone you put minutes on - can be sold or traded. It's like being driven to own nothing, go nowhere, and destroy everything. That's how it was for me anyway.

Even Half that at 30yr ago Tanin.

The detox I was in , in Sydney Australia in 86 . Conditions of entering said detox.

You HAD to Stop drinking . You HAD to go to AA meetings , There was NO tv , NO newspapers . No magazines.

We were only allowed to talk to other 'inmates' (patients) at meal times . We Were to attend group therapy.

If not at meals or group . We HAD to read the "Big Book". Now , it is like a Resort on the Riviera . As it overlooks

the part of Sydney Harbour , near where they had 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Yep . Now there would be TOO Much "OH&S" . All the "Do-gooders" would be saying , you can't treat people like that.

I would have gone from hopeless & helpless with all my unmanageability . To being Further enablement . Which would

have told me . My drinking & behaviour was ok. BS.

No different from all my friends mothers being addicted to soap operas when I was a kid, or whatever people get addicted or a routine into doing. I got sober back when i went out, I had a book of phone numbers, and a couple of dimes, then quarters in my pocket in case I got squirmy and had to call someone from a phone booth. Not to mention dialing instead of push button. It's much better now where I can call, text, type anyone all over the world. read a Big Book or any piece AA or inspirational literature. Or even order a latte at Starbucks and have it waiting for me to pick up. Thank God things change. That's all I can say.

Recovery ... no matter the age and time, starts with the desire to change ...

Without that 'desire' and the action necessary to make it happen, noth'n will change ...
