All AA folks! I've come across some of the recommendations for AA meeting Snacks. I get so surprised many do not understand nutrition, and the dietary "helpers" we all need in EARLY recovery, or to sustain sobriety.
Providing coffee or cafinated only drinks, and carb. And sugar based foods only contribute to anxiety associated with early recovery.......and I mean the first WHOLE YEAR! The brain/ liver needs to heal from the massive pure sugar diet of alcohol
in lue of nutrient dense food.
Also please remember that many in the rooms are there for dual addiction to food, meds, pot or whatever.......providing heavily cafinated beveidges and snacks only cost ntributes to a post meeting drop/crash in blood glycemic levels. Thus can trigger craving, anxiety, insomnia.
please look into and learn about nutritional aspects of recovery, and do not feed those you care about simple starches, carb. Cafine, candy, cookies, and well........crap.
Garbage in garbage out and it all effects mood, mentality, and physical health....lead we hope to spiritual health!
great snacks include Herbal teas, decaf option or 1/2 car. Options, cups for just water!
Nuts, whole grain crackers, popcorn, no salt or lightly salted Nuts, sliced verges with hummus or ranch dip, petite apples, oranges, grapes, strawberries............anything but sugar cookies, candy, potent coffee!!!!
What helped me most in recovery was sitting in HoJo's after a meeting talking with my sponsor and others over coffee, cigarettes and ice cream, but that was a long time ago. I've seen the so called healthy snacks brought into meetings. They don't get eaten.
I would fully support healthy snacks at my home group...or in any meeting. I quit white sugar 10 months ago and only have unhealthy snacks every once-in-a-while. I found a book titled Mood food and it was very interesting to find out how much food plays a role in our moods etc.
So, with that in mind...I'm totally on board with your post. Great Job!
