Hi everyone! Well, today is 77 days sober. The issue is that I am counting the days several times a a day. I see that as a warning sign. You guys said don't get hung up on #s. I'm trying to BEWARE!!! jen
Well, ... all any of us have that counts .... .... is Today ... this is a One Day at a Time deal ... however, to accumulate 77 days in a row IS quite a feat ... Congrats ...

I would only think it was a 'warning sign' if some part of my brain were trying to tell me that there is some magic number of days coming up that is some kind of a 'goal', and that once I get there I will somehow magically be able to drink like someone who doesn't have alcoholism.... THAT kind of thinking is nothing more than 'the insanity of the first drink'.
But as long as I have a thorough understanding of my alcoholism and step one, and am taking daily actions to apply the rest of the steps to address that, then I think acknowledging every new day of sobriety is just a way to help me stay grateful.
Start focusing on the 24 hours ahead , every 24 hours we have is important , what can I do today to continue live sober. People will probably get sick of me saying read PGA 86, 87 and 88 in the BBC every morning it is good direction for the 24 hours ahead!

Thanks Pappy...I was wanting to experience more strength and hope in addition to f2f. Although I am new to this online AA I have been blessed to be around the rooms for quite awhile. I don't know any of the slang...help me out...MIP?

LOL ... ... ... just stick around here a while and you'll eventually be exposed to it all ...
Frankly, I don't know where to start ... anyway, when I joined in here, a few years ago, it was a great addition to the f2f meet'ns ... A lot of people come 'n go here, but the main thing is many have been helped, perhaps even saved from themselves, if you will ... ... ... since this site is 'world-Wide', it draws quite a 'cross-section' of different people, ... so try to keep an open mind and a 'high' tolerance level ...
Love ya and God Bless, Pappy

Congrats, Jen on your days of sobriety. I don't remember if I counted the days in early sobriety. I have seen many people do it since then. Didn't seem to have bad effect. Didnt seem to have good effect, either. I'd say count away. As long as you're doing other things for your recovery: going to meetings, looking for/talking to a sponsor, reading recovery literature, going through the Steps, etc., you will have hope.
Getting through the first 3 months sober is a great start. Most newcomers drop out in the first 3 months.
Best of luck to you, Jen. Let us know when you hit the BIG NINE ZERO.

I seen to recall that I counted days up until around 100 and then eventually realized that I was counting months. What I seem to mainly keep track of now is how I am today. 11 months in a couple of weeks and life just keeps getting better and better. When I diligently do the work and thoughts needed to stay in the 12 steps of AA, counting days became less important than living sober and learning how to be a better man.
Good job on the milestones you have made so far. I think those ought to be celebrated! With cake! or maybe pie!!!
