Try to remember, having a drink does not make a situation any better, ever ... it always makes it worse ...
Try to concentrate on working the steps with all the honesty you can muster ... this will accelerate your recovery ... which will include losing the very desire to drink in the first place ... we're on your side ... please keep us up-to-date so we can help you deal with things ...
Love ya and God Bless, Pappy

I wanted to drink yesterday, too. I woke up wanting to drink, and in my head, I came up with a million reasons why I was entitled to "a glass of wine". Riiight.
Do you guys find any day of the week to be worse than others as far as wanting to drink goes? Mondays have always been a bad day for me.
Made it through the day without drinking, thank you, Lord! Good job, LM!
I'm glad you made it through the day without a drink too MissyJ ... if my math is right, you have 5 years??? ... if you're still having 'the desire' on occasion, you may want to discuss this with your sponsor ... if we work the program intently, usually the desire is lifted when we finish work'n the steps ... just say'n, maybe something can be done to fix that problem? ...
Love ya and God Bless, Pappy

It would be a pretty crap deal if all AA had to offer was just not drinking one arduous day at a time. I would have given up and died long ago.
However someof us suffer from the obsession longer than others and that may be because it takes us longer to do what Pappy suggested. I was on the slow boat at one time, because I didn't think I needed to do the work. I found out different.
I did what Pappy suggested, worked those steps at a good pace, made my inventory, made my confession, made my amends and wham! The world changed. I no longer think about drinking and haven't done for years. I don't think about not drinking either, the problem has been removed and stayed away permanently. It has stayed that way because I continue to try and practice the principles I have learned, and I continue, in a small way, to work with others.
I did what Pappy suggested and ended up with a life far better than anything I could have imagined. All this stuff is promised in the Big Book, and it all turned out to be true for me. AA offers a much better life than just not drinking.
Just wanted to say that MikeH(Fyne Spirit) makes an excellent point ... if we, as alcoholics, just 'don't drink', it becomes torture for us ... and we live in pure misery cause we constantly struggle trying not to drink ... however, if we work the steps and learn a new way to live life, our problem(the desire to drink) is removed ... and THAT frees us to live life in harmony with our HP ... and the beauty of living this kind of life is so fulfilling, it is not to be missed ...
Of course not every day is a day in Eden, but we have the tools to handle any situation that comes along with grace and dignity ... and then we come to know a happiness we never thought possible ... changing the way we think and living a life giving back to others who are still suffering will cause us to lose any desire to drink and thereby allow us to live in peace and serenity ...
Love you guys and God Bless, Pappy
