Newbie... alcoholic since

15 years old basically. I went thru residential treatment thru NARA here in Portland Oregon. Been sober since 7-30-14. working on repairing my life. I lost my daughter to DHS due to my drinking, but I have her returned now. She is 10.. we are doing good , been a rough transition for her. She was in foster care for nearly a year.

I go to court to get custody of her on Tuesday pending on DHS. Trust me I will never go thru this again. I learned my lesion. I don't miss getting loaded anymore. I did gain a lot of weight in treatment, and more when I got back in my own. I keep hearing its normal. matter of fact that is what drew me to this forum!

anyway HOWDY!!

Welcome heartfan and howdy!

Congrats on your sobriety time! You're off to a great start. It sounds like you're working hard to get your life back together, although it doesn't come easy. I hope you're able to get to some meetings, it makes all the difference. Best of luck!

Aloha and welcome to the family Heartfan...there is lots to get here and contribute in return.  We tend to keep each other clean and sober.  I use to work the family recovery side of this disease and DHS in CA was a part of it.  It can get hairy as they are not program people with program thinking however trust your HP with the process and stay willing and honest.   Good on the reunion with your daughter.   You might want to check if there is an Alateen group close to home that she can participate in...12 steps and 12 traditions program which is the same yet different; for children of drinkers and users.   Keep coming back and good luck.   ((((hugs))))smile

Great news about your continued sobriety and what a blessing to have your daughter back in your life.

Don't worry about the weight gain unless it becomes a health issue for you. I lost 20 pounds when I first got sober, and since have gained it back. I had gotten to the point where I was eating only one meal a day and sometimes went for two to three days without eating. I got a real love of sugar not long after I got sober. It is something I have to watch out for. I have decided that my weight is something I can control and I would rather have a few extra pounds of fat on me than a thimbleful of alcohol in me.
