Sobriety Coin Question for Friend's Anniversary/Birthday
Permalink

Hi, a friend of mine is approaching her 5 year sobriety anniversary, and I'm making a display box for her sobriety coins. However, as the coins I ordered have not yet arrived, I can't finish the display.

I'm wondering if someone here can give me the dimensions of these coins in inches and/or mm. From what I've researched, they all seem to be a standard dimension, which I hope is correct.

There are four bronze coins (these are the ones I ordered: http://www.thetokenshop.com/BSP-Bronze-AA-Tokens_p_20.html)

and one triplate coin (this one: http://www.thetokenshop.com/Brilliant-BSP-Triplate-AA-Tokens-_p_28.html)

Can anyone help me?

Thanks!!!

This is a really nice thing for you to do! Unfortunately, there really is no 'standard' for these types of items. They are made by many, many separate companies, and these companies are not affiliated with AA. They are each using whatever design they decide to use. While many of them may be the same diameter, there's no assurance that others from other companies will be, and there is no 'official' design spec from any central source in AA.

:/ That's rather unfortunate, as I was hoping to get the display done in time. Thank you so much for your reply!

If it helps, I just checked mine and they are all just over 1.25" diameter. To be more precise, they measure at 1 and 5/16 inches.

But that's because they are most likely all from the same source here in California. If your friends medallions are from elsewhere, they may be a little different.

Maybe make the display case so it is able to hold slightly larger medallions, and if they are a little smaller maybe they can be held in place using a bit of double-sided tape or something?

Why don't you email "the token shop" where they are coming from? I'm sure they would take a minute and measure the coins for you.

I actually already tried that, and they weren't able to provide the dimensions. I'm thinking I'll either have to go with the suggestion to make the holes larger and secure the coins with tape or something, or just wait till the order arrives.
