The staff at the hotel we stayed in for our wedding were great though the complained about this horrible couple staying next to us. They broke lots of stuff in the room and locked themselves out a few times. As we were laughing and just returning to our room after the reception,  the couple comes down the hallway and the husband is literally holding the wife up and steering her to their room as she is slamming into walls and yammering.  He told her she was embarrassing herself and she stammered "Aww..come on...they know we're just having fun!" That husband...actually neither of them, looked like they were having fun and clearly nobody else was having fun with them either. We, on the other hand, had a blast with tons of family and friends. We had no liquor at our reception. Staff here, everywhere...were great and we were able to show them appreciation for making our wedding great. I've never had more fun. 6 years ago, I can recall me and my former partner tearing up every place we went, alienating everyone, making fools of ourselves and blabbering about "fun" as if being a diseased drunk is really fun.  Thank you God and AA (which of course consists of you guys) for giving me a real life, a full life, a recovered life, and a blessed life.

Great to hear PC!  Congrats and I'm happy for you man.  You've come a long way and it's been wonderful to see the growth.  Isn't it amazing now to see how we USED to look and act.  What a delusional state we were in.  Thinking we were only having fun?  When really we were destroying ourselves and everything that came into our path.  But for the Grace of God go I with your hotel neighbors.  That was me on many occassions.  Thanks for your share.  smile

My wife and I will be celebrating 5 years married in just a few days. We had an alcohol-free wedding and reception. The caterer said hey, the draft beer is no extra cost, it's included - but we opted out. There's a restaurant with a bar across the parking lot from the hall where we had the reception so if any of the guests just had to have a drink, they could get one. Not sure if anybody did. Most of the guests said they had a really good time. We had a live jazz quartet instead of a DJ, which was very nice - didn't blow the place down with loud music. There was no way that wedding would have happened if I were still drinking, so it seemed the right thing to do. We did the toast with ginger ale.
