Dropped by Intergroup after my noon meeting and picked up three of the 75th Edition replica of the first edition Big Books. I got three because I never know who I might run into that will actually read it. They're pretty fricken awesome...Wide margins...Large type and thick paper makes it look like a monster. Thus....The name. That slick red, yellow and black jacket.....It's a fine specimen. $12.72....A good buy if you're considering a gift for someone that might need it. I got my younger brothers name on one of them.
It's funny how you mention that today stepchild. I was at my bigbook meeting tonite and someone was sharing about the old timers. It turns out his Dad has 50 yrs and new a bunch of the Akron people. He describes how he went with his dad yrs ago to a NJ conference and they have a archived first edition big book. He described it as tell phone book size but like a magazine. Worth a lot of Money today.
It's a good description of it....A fat telephone book. It's pretty cool because it has the original stories in the back....They've changed some through the other 3 editions. A couple of those I hadn't read. It's a trip. The guy told me he's been selling them like hotcakes.
one thing tht messed me up when id look stuff up in my 75th edition:
different page numbers, but I can read everything better!!
loved a story in there, fired again. saw that title and HAD to read it. if I wasn't fired, I quit because,ya know, "they" just don't know how to do it right!!
I was blown away to read a lot of my story only about 100 years prior.
