I know that my thinking has changed and still is changing and I have had this crazy mixed up mind of mine before my drinking days. My perceptions and reactions to things have changed and it is only by the Grace of God and working the 12 Steps that this miracle has happened. I have tried self-help books (many, many self-help books), exercise, attending church (and a couple of times being a bit of what some would call a "religious fanatic"). Still had the crazy thinking, though. Heck....it is still crazy, however, not nearly as crazy as before. I still get upset, angry, disappointed over some things. The difference is now I can recognize those emotions for what they are, own them, work through them and turn them over to God.
So if it took me being an alcoholic to get mentally better, I'm good with that and if I can help other suffering alcoholics in any way, I'm better with that.

Great post, Mike!
