Been awake for a while. Now that my anger is subsiding I find myself hurting. I don't want to feel or live like this anymore. A little ESH please! Ron

Its all part of a changing grieving process buddy...time takes time...one day at a time...

Throw yourself into the program and meetings...and ride it out..

Weve all been there...

When I am angry I tend to do harmful things -- When I hurt sometimes I just cry.
For this alky hurting is better than angry.
The old saying This too shall pass

I think I hurt because of fear. I have found prayer to my HP to be very comforting.... I go to Him with specific problems as well as say the Serenity Prayer and the Third Step Prayer...

"God, I offer myself to Thee-to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!"

I also hurt when I am depressed and when I feel depressed, I feel I am alone. I'm never alone and You are never alone, Enigma, and you never have to face your difficulties fooling yourself into thinking you are anymore. We love and care about you.

One more thing I would like to add, that when I do something for someone else it makes me feel so much better. That was very hard for me to do early in the program. However, by the time I had a very few months in the program and did start doing service work, it changed me so much. As long as I was helping others it took my mind off of myself. I didn't have much sober time, however, I started to post on here about how I was staying sober, because there were newcomers who had less time than I did and I was wanting to help them. You could do that, too, if you desire. Even if it is one person you have helped by sharing how you are staying sober, that is great!

When I went through those times, ... I had to get my mind on something else ... anything else ... so I would get busy on any project I could find, cause leaving my mind to 'think' for itself was a dangerous place for me to be ...

In moments like this I was trying to read things about A.A. Articles, which Bill wrote were good for me in moments of anger or depression. About acceptance, honesty, God and so on. On silkworth.net you can find a lot of information. I printed some things, so when I'm going for a walk or in the bus, I'm reading. Also it was good for me when I downloaded tapes of speakers to listen them. In that way my mind wasn't in depressions or pain and self-pity.
I remember that I had times when I woke up with tapes, going through the day with tapes and going to bed with tapes just to not think.

There's a poster on the wall at the meetings. Well several in fact. one says think think think. I take that to mean don't go with your first thought because it's what you used to do. don't act out your second thought because it's a reaction to the first thought. Act on your third thought which will be.......talk to a member of the fellowship. There should be one that says keep it simple and another that says first things first. the simple and primary purpose is to stay sober. I'm sometimes prey to anger, to hurt, to embarrasment, to lots of negative emotions. I've been seeing a psycho terrorist. We worked out that I like to give feelings a physical form. When my head starts to chatter and the thoughts are whirling, I see them as a community of politicians who I gradually vote out of office. when I'm angry it's a wolf that has snuck up on me so I turn and face it and tell it I know you're there and watch it slink away. embarrassment is me at five years old so Ibuy my childself an ice cream and we sit on the beach and I tell myself I love me. all I can say is it works for me. As does prayer for the person I have allowed to live in my head rent free. It's a simple one. dear god, please let so and so get everything the deserve. after about fifteen or twenty reps it changes in my head from what I think they deserve...usually square testicles with a different infection on each corner.....to what their higher power decides they deserve....which will invariably be the best for them. hope this helps and I'm really, really happy to see you back here Ron.

"Square testicles".......lmao at this...(I might have to do an amends in the form of prayer to my HP for enjoying this so much

Great posting, Bill!

I told my sponsor (early in the program) that there's a sign on the wall that sez 'Think, Think, Think' ... He said THAT'S for us, you don't need to do that right now til you come to a better understanding of what this program is all about ... LOL ... Damn, he was right !!!
