Weekly Thought
In Genesis 39:1-23 we read the fascinating story of Joseph. This handsome, proud, brilliant, favorite sonhe had everything going for himin an instant lost it all. He was unfairly sold into slavery by his own brothers and became a servant of Potiphar, an Egyptian army commander. Potiphar was so impressed with Joseph that he entrusted all that he had to Joseph's care. But just when things were looking up, Potiphar's wife made things much worse. When Joseph rejected her advances, she took revenge by accusing Joseph of trying to rape her. Predictably, Potiphar had Joseph thrown in jail.
But because Joseph was a man who loved the Lord faithfully, God blessed him even in the pit of prison, and Joseph was soon put in charge of all the other prisoners. Many years and events later, Joseph was made ruler over Egypt.
If there ever was a person who had reason to rage against life's unfairness, it was him. But he was a man with so much faith in God that he conducted himself with a sense of peace and purpose even while living in the pit.
Heavenly Father, You are with me and provide everything I needeven in the pits of life. Amen.
