I think someone at an NA meeting said that the expression 'keep it green' comes from a certain program method of getting points or demerits and being within acceptable limits is colored green on a graph,,, and if a person goes out of the green it means s/he got too many demerits.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Hi Amanda,

To me, Keep it Green simply means Keep it fresh (like don't forget how it was).

At least that's how I use it.

Keep it green - to me it means - keep the environment green - use biodegradable products which do not harm the earth.

Just my take - Jeannie

Hi Amanda,

No, I don't know exactly what that does mean.  I was drawn to the Post, thinking it had something to do with "Keeping things fresh".  Never make assumptions, Right?

It has been my thinking all week, how can I make the Program feel Fresh, or Green, after years in this program, the one thing that is so easy to slip into is a feeling of Complacancy.

I have been attending about three meetings a week, and looking for someone to Sponsor, there are not a lot of new people that attend the meetings I go to. Thought I had met someone, but she changed her mind and choose another person. Ouch! and OH Well and ....whatever....TeHe

But I did just think of something that might help.  I think I will make a chart, and use a green and red marking pen.  Put a graph on a Monthly Calander,  and use the pens for a daily reminder of feeling close to the Steps, and the Program, and use the Red pen for when I feel like I am slipping into any complacency. Also, going to make a list of things I need to buy, that will help. First the 24 hour book, that I had and Cherished so much, used to read before my thinking would even get started in the morning, remembering how much it made me feel connected to this Program, going to find a Gentle Path thru the 12 Steps, on eBay, you can buy them for around $4.00, and do the steps over, very diligently.  I used to do the steps as an almost automatic thing, every year, (almost like the steps would work me, not the other way around).  i do remember how good it felt to be in that "growing pains" part. Difficult, and at the same time stimulating.

So thanks a lot for the Post, you helped with something I have been struggeling with for a few weeks.

When I was going thru that difficult period  last month, with the Grief process, it makes us "PUSH" so hard, in Prayer, meditation, and more Prayer, and i do believe that it is when we are in the "pushing" part of life, we are growing, and speaking for myself, I need that part always, to feeling I am going forward.  Complacancy, is a place in the middle, where we have to choose forward,  stand still , or backward motion. So your post helped me with something i have been  looking for answers to.

So thanks again, I hope someone on this Board can help with your original question.

Also hope things are getting better, regarding getting things back in order at your place,  that can be so frustrating to live in any chaos.

Hope you have a good Saturday,

A Big Hug, Toni

okay...  I found a web-site about 'keep it green'.  Here's a link:

http://theemergencesite.com/BLocks/BLocksRisksAlc.htm

notice that the upper part of the graph is green. It is the zone where we are fully conscious and aware, and it is called the 'Holistic Zone', where wounding and healing can occur.  There are two graphs,,, one above, and one down below that you have to scroll down to get to. The graph below shows a person who is not fully conscious or aware,,  not in the green zone, and who does not then learn from experiences and so is more likely to continue drinking.

Hi Again

Great Chart, I saved it,  can be used for my own problems of fear of complacancy too.

So thanks a lot.
