Just gotta think of you while reading her work...a twin?...the similarities as we speak of in recovery?  Glad you both made it.  The blog got me grateful that for today we all have made it.   (((((hugs))))) smile

I like the way she wrote. Touchy subject even in recovery. All of us pretty much buy into the disease model but we also buy into the treatment/12 step model so that puts us in a position of looking at other addicts and viewing them as just the same as us, but not grasping, seeking recovery or actively refusing it. That sounds judgy right there huh? Connundrum.

Seems nothing like a conundrum to me... they have a disease that tells them they don't have it.

Excellent blog. She is certainly one of us ... working on and grateful for our daily reprieve.

All the best.

Lol. A disease that tells you that you don't have it is a conundrum and that's part of why recovery may be so elusive to some. The author also stated she "got it" when she was educated that she had a disease arrestable by total abstinence. Many alcoholics are told that but keep drinking. She also said maybe she was just "lucky" to grasp recovery. Sounds like she knows how tricky this is but the point is to not judge the active addict/alcoholic because we don't wish this upon ourselves and those of us in recovery have been there and could be again.
