I'm new to AA and the board and wanted to say hello and that I'm grateful to be sober today.

I've had problems with alcohol since I was young and it's caused me more headache and heartbreak than I could begin to recount in one posting. I thought I knew a lot about addiction and could manage my drinking but came to the realization it managed me and that I'm powerless over my addiction.

I haven't found a sponsor yet but have been attending meetings every day and have 10 days sober today.

Welcome !!

I am slowly transforming my feather from a looniebird feather to an eagle feather.

Looking forward to growing with you.

All the best.

Welcome LBF!  Glad to have you here with us.  Sounds like we suffer from the same malady.  Alone we get sick, but together great things will and do happen.  Grab a chair and stay with us.

Welcome to MIP LBF, ... I'm also glad you found us ... CONGRATS on 10 days ... I remember when I thought THAT was an impossibility for me ... it's incredible what we can do if we take everything just 'one day at a time' ... Glad you're here with us ...

If you have any questions or need any coaching along your journey, please feel free to share it with us ... 'together' we stay sober ...

Love ya man and God Bless,
Pappy

Congratulations on reaching 10 days yesterday!!!! Doesn't it feel great to go that long without drinking alcohol? It is so good to have you here and I hope that you post more to let us know how you are doing.

Play the 'tape' back ... what happened the last time you got 'plowed' ??? ... do you really want to experience that again ??? ...

BB pg. 24
The fact is that most alcoholics, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so called will power becomes practically nonexistent. We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. We are without defense against the first drink.

Ask your HP to remove the desire to drink or drug just for today ... tomorrow will take care of itself ...

Welcome LBF....I think it's pretty normal for an alcoholic early on to struggle with that. I needed three meetings a day when I started. Can't find a drink there. Do you have a Big Book? I also found picking that up and reading it...As well as a quick prayer to keep me away from the first drink helped me out a lot when that thought came up. Glad you are here.

Good Morning to You, Littlebigfeather....
I hope today is a better one for you. I too struggled with wanting a drink especially in the first days, weeks of sobriety. And when I am not on track and staying focused, after months of staying sober still have weak moments, but I have gotten through them and didn't have to drink after all. I just keep going to meetings and although I didn't find this board until a little while into my recovery, since I did find it, come to it everyday. I also just started thanking my HP for keeping me sober and asked Him to help keep me sober "today". I didn't really know who I was thanking or who I was asking in the beginning, but just did it anyway, and have found it has helped me.
I hope you have a great day and it is good to "hear" from you here. You are among friends who are going through/have been through what you are dealing with as far as staying sober is concerned, so you never ever have to feel alone. I have found that to be one of the most helpful things for me because I felt so alone for so long.

X2- about sums it up.  Don't let the lies your EGO is telling you.  This time it will be different- that's the insanity of this diesase.  That's just your diesase sneaking up on you.  It will find any hole in the fence to go through to gain leverage over you.  Resist the urge-pray-move your feet to a meeting or a phone call to someone sober- come back here and write about it.

I'm so embarrassed and feel like an idiot.

I ended up drinking and got into a big argument about that actor who recently died from drugs. Everybody was saying what a tragedy it was and I went off and told them he had it coming for being a drug addict.

Some guy who claimed he hadn't drank for 18 years and had been off drugs for 4 years jumped my case so I tried to boost my side of the argument by saying I was an expert in addiction and posted photos of some self-help tapes I had. disbelief It got heated and I told him he was only trying to promote drug use before the mods stepped in and locked the thread.

I had messaged him saying I was a doctor but he said not to message him again and blocked me. He hasn't been seen since and has apparently left the site where it took place so I can't even make amends.

Ah yes, that feeling that we know it all ... I know that feeling all too well ... ... ... and letting your 'beer muscles' do your thinking and talking for you maybe wasn't such a good idea ... and for God's sake, GET RID of those 'self-help' tapes ... you're doing nothing more than trying to build up the very person you need to get rid of ... ... ...

And whether you're a doctor or not, alcoholism doesn't get a sh*t ... in fact, higher learning can be a big liability when trying to recover ... and finally, I feel that guy that starred on Glee that OD'ed was a tragedy ... it just means 'addiction' claimed another victim ... alcoholism and drug addiction are formidable foes ... and few recover to live healthy spiritual lives ... And one more thing, there IS NO good excuse or reason to go get 'hammered' when we know it's the wrong thing for us in any circumstance ...

I suggest working the steps and getting to some meetings, a lot of meetings ... remember, if we don't change, then nothing changes !!!
