If I could have done the first, I wouldn't need the second! The strange mental blank spot defeated me everytime. My defence had to come from a higher power.

God bless,
MikeH.

one thing I find wrong with don't drink and go to meetings- goin to meetings and not drinking doesn't treat alcoholism.
as stated in that link,"here are the steps we took.....
and
'having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps..."

I like the slogans as icing on the cake. They sound good! If I could only have just had the power to not drink and go to meetings!

Ha!

Hi Sober Strummer, In my first months in A.A., and just fresh out of a treatment center, I heard all the contradictory and confusing talk in meetings about staying sober, such as....."Just don't drink today and go to meetings."  I almost fell for it at first.....until I finally saw that it doesn't work.  I was blessed that I was accidentally stumbling in to meetings where most of the people were working the actual 12 Step Program....and they were sober for years -- not just months.  That was where I saw the two different approaches to sobriety.  It didn't take me very long to choose which one I wanted.  This is a great topic.  Thanks, Mike D.

Don't drink and go to meetings! ... ???

This is a good first attempt to get your mind conditioned to receive the wisdom to come ... it's not meant to be THE solution !!!
