Coffee Is Better After I Stopped Drinking
Permalink

Sounds like a silly post, I know, but I sure am enjoying my coffee tons more since I stopped drinking a little over a week ago. Is it because I'm starting to feel better about myself, or has anyone else experienced this? Drinking some now -- soooooooo good!

Yes jalen. That is pretty common. Same thing happened with me. Just keep drinking plenty of water to offset. I drank so much coffee I would get dehydrated. Someone once told me that the miracle of AA is they turn alcohol into coffee.

lol, I can imagine. I was supposed to go to my first AA meeting tonight, but my daughter's Christmas play got so much local attention, they decided to run it through and do a third set on Sunday afternoon. So it's Monday night for me. Are you saying I can expect to get my fill of coffee at the AA meeting? LOL

Yes. Coffee is a mainstay of AA meetings. So happy you are going to go to a meeting. That was the hardest thing for me. Once there, I just did what they told me pretty much.

LOL Jalen, ... You DO realize that alcohol kills the 'taste buds', right ??? ... ... ... Heavy drinkers have 'white' tongues because of this phenom ... usually takes a few weeks to restore the tongue to it;s natural state ... coffee tastes better just like food in general ... notice that what you eat now doesn't taste like cardboard anymore ??? ...

Sure do. When I would stop drinking at times before I went to detox (maybe a week at the most), I noticed food would taste better and I craved salt. That said, when I was in detox, I was told my sodium level was extremely low. I'm sure it had to do with the drinking, but what exactly causes the loss of sodium? If I can be blunt, is it because you urinate so much more when you're drinking, and lose the salt there? Really just curious if anyone knows.

Just to add, I know some old timers that would put salt in their beer, but I never understood why. Really has me baffled.

Yep, I've seen that too ... not me though ... I tried it and it seemed to make it go flat, LOL ... I do put a pinch of salt on my coffee grounds before brewing, it makes the coffee less bitter and a little richer ...

I'm addicted to starbucks pike place.

I have read about the damage to your adrenal glands when you over do it. I also have read that people who drink more than 4 cups of coffee per day have less brain atrophy with age or Alzheimers...

Oh, so that's what caused my tongue to be white for so long.
But still smoke, so taste buds are prob. still not all there and sometimes still notice that nasty residue on my tongue.
Love coffee but would love it more if I could get down to 2-3 cups/day instead of 8-12.

I don't get it. Sure it means something other than a coffeepot and a shoe. The coffee pot looks like it is sitting on the bottom part of an iron. (Will my brain ever be back to normal again? What is "normal" anyway, and was it ever normal?)

Simple BTY, ... the upside down iron is serving as a 'hot plate', like the bachelors in old movies had in their apartments ... usually young college dorm guys (before microwaves, LOL) ... ... ... this guy obviously wanted coffee bad enough to look around and use what he had at hand ... crude, but it works ...

I love going out to eat for the simple fact that I eat now, and wasn't much before if at all, and everything tastes awesome!! And as for me I craved sugar when I stopped drinking. Got on a kitkat spree, but it helped so much. I've never heard of the low sodium, but might be cause our bodies are too high/low on just about everything. Have a great day, and drink as much as you want for now!

Coffee is frikken awesome. I'm enjoying a delicious cup right now. There are not many ways to make a great cup of coffee even better, but I found one - Stroopwafels.

These are a unique Dutch treat that is served with coffee. It's a type of large, flat cookie with a thin layer of honey or caramel sandwiched between two thin layers of cookie that tastes a bit like a Chinese fortune cookie, but better. You place the stroopwafel on top of a full cup of coffee and allow the coffee to warm and soften the stroopwafel. After a couple of minutes, you eat the stroopwafel and drink the coffee when the temperatures of the coffee and the stroopwafel have both reached their peak of perfection for consumption.
