"God works by law. If we jump off a cliff, then gravity will act @9metres/second. It does not matter how we slipped."
I dragged my feet for the first 3years with the working of the steps. I would of relapsed because my alcoholism was progressing although I was sober.
I did not know what a spiritual experience was, because I had not done the steps. I wanted to be like my sponsor, so I did what my sponsor did, which is working the steps. How do I know. After working the first 9 steps I found that this statement has come true which is promised in the book:
" And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone--even alcohol. For by this time sanity will have returned. We will seldom be interested in liquor. If tempted, we recoil from it as from a hot flame.
We react sanely and normally, and we will find that this has happened automatically. We will see that our new attitude toward liquor has been given us without any thought or effort on our part. It just comes! That is the miracle of it. We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as though we had been placed in a position of neutrality--safe and protected. We have not even sworn off. Instead, the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us. We are neither cocky nor are we afraid. That is how we react so long as we keep in fit spiritual condition." Pg 84 AA book.
That's my experience also Gonee! Right down to the years(3). I went to meetings, but did nothing else. Why didn't The Promises materialize or why didn't I have a Spiritual Experience? All I got was irritability, restlessness and discontentment- then drunk. Because I didn't work The Steps. AA is a 12 Step program, not a meeting attendance program. Although, meetings are important for recovery, unity and service.
I have a guy in my homegroup that shares...Meeting makers make meetings....Step takers recover.
Great share gonee...Those are my favorite promises.....You hear people in meetings say...Don't leave until the miracle happens....Like it's just going to happen. That is the miracle they talk about....And we do have to work for it.
