What is Your Favorite Food to Eat on Thanksgiving Day?

Mine has to be pecan pie. My mom used to make these at Thanksgiving and I haven't had any I like as much. With a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on a slice which has been heated...yummm!

Wow, if you had pecan pie for breakfast, it sounds like you are a bigger fan of it than I am, sober strummer!

Honey Baked Ham with baked Cheese potatoes (kinda like scalloped or as a casserole)... ... ... then of course there's sweet potatoes w/ marshmallows & brown sugar on top, dark turkey meat with gravy, yeast rolls, green bean casserole, squash casserole, deviled eggs, sweet corn, macaroni salad, sweet young pea salad, turkey dressing and gravy, ... oh boy, I'm gettin' hungry now ...

Then for dessert, ummmm, buttermilk pie, pecan pie, pumpkin pie ... all with choice of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream ...

we can't forget EggNog and Boiled Custard, hot chocolate and spiced tea ...

Then there's the loosening of everybody's pants ... and being 1st to find a good napping spot ... ... ... LOL

Wow Pappy, that is quite a spread --just like my a** would be if I ate all that. I ended up going to a buffet place with two other AA'ers. All you can eat for $13.95. We didn't go until after 2:30. The turkey was almost gone, there was no stuffing or cranberries, no pecan pie. But I had crab casserole (imitation crab), General Somebody's Chicken, stir fry veggees,, roasted duck, sushi and got talked into trying a frog leg which I have never had and hopefully never will again. Didn't want to hurt feelings by not trying it. (Need to talk to my sponsor about that one). I used to catch frogs when I was a kid. I used to catch tadpoles and watch them grow little limbs and let them loose at the creek I caught them at when they were big enough. Sure didn't think I would ever end up eating one of them. But I used to catch baby birds, too, and I eat chicken and turkey, oh, and duck too. This was a very different Thanksgiving for me, but I am grateful. Went to my AA meeting tonight --not nearly as many people but it was so great to be there and be with those that were.

Hey BTY, you asked what our favorites were, not what we had ... I was home alone with just the 'movers' for company today ... I couldn't just sit around while they worked, so I pitched in and helped carry a few thing to the truck for them ... ummmm, okay, they were the 4 or 5 lbs things, not the 50 to 80 lbs thing, but it was somethin' ... LOL

You really don't want to know what I ate today ... LOL

Oh, you are right Pappy, I did ask that. I thought that you and your wife sure were busy cooking with the move and all you have going on. Glad you didn't lift anything heavier than you did. I'd be worried about you if you did. I hope you did get a good meal with all that, though.

Okay, you asked for it ... ... ... for breakfast, two 'Tasty Kakes' w/milk ... ... ... for lunch, an Apple ... ... ... for supper, one Jalapeno Bologna sandwich (on sourdough bread) with some Snapple Peach Tea ... which was really quite good ... or it could have been I was so hungry, anything would have tasted good, LOL ... ... ...

There are some frozen burritos in the freezer, but I didn't feel like a burrito ... I almost started snacking on Rose's 'Milk-Bones' ... LOL ... ...

Pappy, you can save the milk bones for the drive! You'll need to keep your strength up.

BTY, I had some leftover pasta. It was decent, but no turkey dinner!

Milkbones help clean the teeth and freshen breath, so if you're too wiped out to brush them, no need to worry. And hey! They come in 25 different varieties, too!

Just compare the ingredients of a milkbone to spam and souse:

Milkbone: Wheat flour, wheat bran, beef meal, beef bone meal, wheat germ, beef fat, poultry-by-product meal, lamb meal, salt, chicken meal, dried beet pulp, Wheat flour, wheat bran, dicalcium phosphate, bacon fat, brewers dried yeast, whey, artificial color, vitamins, malted barley flour, iron oxide, casein, natural flavor (source of peanut butter flavor), dough conditioner, minerals, soy lecithin

Spam:pork with ham, salt, water, modified potato starch, sugar, and sodium nitrite

Souse: beef tongues, pigs ears, pigs feet, onions, salt, ground black pepper, whole black peppercorns, dried sage, whole cloves and bay leaves

(I've got way too much time on my hands tonight :)

Oh man, the 'milkbones' are starting to sound real good right about now ... LOL ... and I only noticed they came in small, medium, and large ... ... ... the only thing I worry about now is what Rose will do when she sees me eating her stuff ... I dislike brushing my teeth so you may have a good point here about popping a couple 'milkbones' every day ... ... (well, I guess it's not the brushing I dislike, it's the flossing ... occasionally, I'll pop a crown off and then it's a trip to the dentist ... and I Really, Really hate that) ... ... ... LOL

And YES, you DO have too much time on your hands ... and the souse ingredients are 'spot on', just run them through the grinder ... and when we cooked that stuff on the farm, I had to leave the house, the smell was horrendous ... absolutely nothin' on earth smells like that stuff ... I'll eat just about anything, but I do draw the line at souse ... LOL ... I want to open all my windows now, just thinkin' 'bout the smell ...

Sorry about the loss of crowns when you flossed-- that dental floss ends up being pretty expensive at that rate.
I wonder if they added the cloves and other spices to try and flavor it or hide the smell. I am surprised anyone eats it not only because of the ingredients, but because of that. My mom used to fry up this salty bacon like stuff. It was a lot thicker than bacon and really salty. I loved it, but it is probably almost pure fat. She would fix that with collard greens and cornbread. Real southern cooking.

I'll put it this way, I don't know what spices they put in it, but I knew where the meat came from ... imagine pig lips and tongue and hairy skin(from the ears), all ground up together ... first time I ate the stuff, I spit out a hairy piece of ear that wasn't supposed to be there ... oou, we got to change subjects, LOL ...

All the hams and bacon we cured was heavily salted to preserve them (ever had 'country ham'? ... salty, right?)(go to Cracker Barrel and order country ham and eggs if not, ... you'll see ...) ... and if Momma didn't soak them overnite in water to get the salt out, it almost wasn't fit to eat ... and I think I love too much salt on everything to this day because of how I was brought up ... and my heart doctor told me to cut out salt all together ... I said are you nuts ??? ... ... ... so I'm on medicine to keep BP down and to slow the heart rate ... life goes on ...

Collard Greens and cornbread ... yep, about every Sunday ... oh boy, my stomach is starting to growl again ... Bye!!!

Pig Hair? The things aren't skinned first? Oh super yuck to that. Hey, I just looked up the history of souse (again, not really sure why I felt need to do this, the too much time thing again, I guess) and you may know this Pappy, that another name for it is "head cheese" and it is popular in quite a number of countries with different variations. I got talked into trying the frog leg yesterday, but I would have to be "hog tied" to try souse in any form.
Love the salt ham. My mom would always soak hers too. I tried to fix one without doing that because I thought the more salt the better. It was not edible as you already know without me saying that. So I would have to slice off what was needed for a meal and boil it, rinse that water off, boil it again. It had a rubbery texture from the boiling, but it was edible at least.
Yes, you need to watch the salt with the BP. I have cut down salt a lot over last few years. I knew I was killing myself with the alcohol, and didn't want to give that up, so I tried to cut back in other areas.
I'm getting hungry, too. It is too late and I am too lazy to try your chocolate mug cake. Think I may have to go get me a slice of that Edward's Hershey Chocolate Crème Pie before long. They were on sale for $4.99 and had to get one! I doubt you could even buy a slice of a similar pie in a restaurant for that price.

It's all gone now, I have that same problem. Two pieces in one day isn't too far off from eating half. Now I have extras of the goodies I made for the meetings this weekend and they are calling my name :(

Yes, you're right about that. And I'll have to stop doing the "steps" to the fridge if that happens :(
