What Favorite Snacks Do You Like at Your AA Meetings?

Hey Pappy, if you were in my area I would make a batch for you and your wife. (Disclaimer below on my cookie baking...)I hope you find one too that has some cookies for you! I got a Mrs. Field's cookie recipe book and I am going to try out some recipes in that during rest of fall and winter. I have had a time with baking cookies in the past....I always seem to get the bottoms too brown or burnt. I'll have to ask my HP to give me a hand with that before I put them in the oven. :)

Cookies???( If so, what kind?)

Fudge???

Cake??? (Betcha I know what your favorite flavor is...)

I have been fixing coffee and also making some treats for some of the meetings I go to. I had all but quit baking/doing much cooking because of my drinking and it is good to get back into it. It really has helped me feel more a part of the groups and also to get there early and stay later I have more time to talk and get to know people.  That was a huge issue for someone who used to arrive as close to the time it started and run out the door when the meetings ended just to avoid people. Anyway, I am trying to come up with different things to fix for some of the meetings I attend and would love to hear from you about what you like. Thanks y'all.

In my experience, recovering drunks will eat ANYTHING sweet. I've been sober for over 7 years and am still waiting for my insatiable need for sugar to go away...but when I bake for meetings I like to make something that people can just grab and sit down, like cookies, or brownies already cut into serving pieces on a plate.

Okay BTY, ... Pappy to the rescue ... I've got a recipe that 'is to die for' for cookies ... It's called 'The World's Best Cookie' ... and 'dag gum' if they aren't right ...

I'll send you a PM when, and if, I can find it ... (this could take some time since I will have to find it, 'scan' it, and figure out how to copy/print it and so on ... you get the picture) ... if I have problems, maybe Tasha will help me ... (I'm starting to think she's a lot smarter than I am ... LOL)(probably is!!!)

P.S.   They have 'NO' chocolate in them, ... go fig'r ... but good Lord, they ARE,  THE best ... .. ...

I would love to have your recipe Pappy whenever you get the time. If you know the name of them I can do a search online. If it is a family or friend recipe maybe not though. No chocolate and they are "The World's Best Cookie"? Dag gum back at ya, as how can that be??? You have me curious and normally I would have told you to please not go to all that trouble to send it to me, but you have me too curious now.

We had very few tricker treaters this year and I've been eating left over mini chocolate bars by the fistful. It's becoming quite serious. It's pretty much all I think about :)

Pappy, It sounds delicious and I will try that one. Thanks so much for taking the time and posting it. Hopefully I won't burn them.

Seedless grapes??? Never thought of that and may work up the courage to take some, however, quite a few of the group seem to be chocoholics/cookieholics and I fear if I only take grapes (which are a lot better for us....) they may start throwing them at me :)

I see that as a 'reasonable' assumption BTY ... LOL ... once we get a 'baker' among us, we begin to look forward to the 'goodies' ... and we wouldn't want to see a bunch of drunks during a 'rebellion' ... LOL

LALOL's (lots and lots of laughs) Pappy!
A while back, one member got a little bent out of shape when a person who was bringing goodies stopped. I wanted to ask him if he could bring some himself, because I would love to try them. I decided to keep my mouth shut. I love fixing things and makes me feel really good when people seem to enjoy what I bring. Gets a little expensive but figured I had money for booze. I will do it as long as I am able to. I go to different meetings and go every day. As much as I would love to take something for everyone of them, I just can't. So I am going to have to stop at a couple of them before long so I can take treats to my other meetings. Hope no one gets upset at me.

Okay BTY, I officially wish now that I was moving to your area of the country ... I love when someone brings homemade goodies ... and I'll miss that here at my current 'home group' ... I did what you're doing for a short while, but it did get a little expensive, not to mention time consuming ... as we recover and get back into life, things do change ... some of us have the time and money, some of us don't ... but it is nice to share our other talents, like baking ... LOL

Crap, ... ... ... now I want to go 'bake' something ... ... ... with the house 'for sale' I don't want to mess up the kitchen ... and I have already packed away my recipe box ... you got me wanting to make a batch of those 'World's Best Cookies' now ... ... ... and I'm here to tell you, when I first made them, it seemed like 'unlikely' ingredients for a good cookie ... don't let that fool you, they're absolutely fantastic ... (again ... w/o chocolate, go figure) ...

Now I'm thinking a chocolate/caramel 'poke' cake ... ... ... oh Lord ... I just need something sweet ... NOW !!! ...

chocolate and caramel??? Oh no! My two favorites! I got a couple of bags of caramel candies that I want to use in a recipe or two. Last night went shopping and stocked up on several bags of semi-sweet choc. bits for my groups. Tonight I am making a cake for someone celebrating multiple years of sobriety.

(Psssttt....hey Pappy....it is Dark Choclate Fudge with Ultra Creamy Chocolate Frosting. Sorry you aren't here to have some. Well, hope it turns out ok, maybe it's a good thing you aren't if it isn't that great.)

I absolutely love a 'Dark Chocolate' anything ... in fact, I just ate a Hershey's 'Special Dark' chocolate bar an hour ago ...  LOL ... and if you wanted me drooling ... you accomplished your goal ...

P.S. ... We'll have to start PM'ing some recipes after I get settled down with our move ... (there's only 2 foods I don't care for, and that's pickled beets and anchovies ... LOL ... I pretty much like anything else ... ) ... (kind of like that kid in the old cereal commercial for Life cereal I think, the other kids said give it to Mikey, he'll eat anything, or something like that ... LOL)

I loveee that chocolate bar! Hey the cake flopped. I didn't know it was possible to screw up a boxed cake mix, but now I know. Anyway, after trying to cut off the burnt parts, flipping it over onto a platter and tearing up a lot of it, icing it while it was still warm and having the icing run all over the place and not cover my "tears" and "cuts" in it, it looked like it had been through hell, so I decided to keep it here and fix something else. I tried a little piece of it and it was so over baked and dry, I thought I would choke on it. I was really joking about the "maybe it's a good thing you aren't here if it isn't that great" above, because I really didn't think I'd mess it up. Turns out I must be psychic :)

Don't fret BTY, ... you can't learn to be a good cook without making mistakes ... I should know ... my motto had always been when a little of this or that is good, more is better ... and Oh my Lord, that couldn't be further from the truth, LOL ... just the kind of thinking an alcoholic usually has ...

Cooking and baking is an art form in my book and like this program, it requires 'practice' ...

Love ya and God Bless,

Pappy

Thanks Pappy, I agree that it does take practice. Shoot, if I had spent all that time baking instead of drinking, I would probably give Emeril a run for his money! Hey I am going to send you a recipe by PM mail. The members seem to really love them and they are the easiest things I have ever made.
