Cunning, baffling, powerful!

Although treatment for the disease of alcoholism is freely available through AA's 12 step program and meetings, few there be that accept it. Yet for many other diseases where treatment is costly and difficult, the patients humbly accept whatever they can get.

I can only thank God for keeping me alive from the deadly dangerous disease of denial and complacency, called alcoholism. My only prayer is that I don't short circuit my own recovery, through neglect.

Some of the old symptoms do visit, but awareness of the disease and constant vigilance is key to stay alive. Other diseases are much easier to treat because the threat is so imminent, but alcohol is cunning, baffling, powerful.

It never lets go!

They say it's the only disease that tells you...You don't have a disease. I bought that right to the end....Until I could concede to my innermost self...I was alcoholic....I didn't have a chance.....That and finding out lack of power was my problem.....And taking the action to find that power.

few there be that accept it.

That's one thing that still baffles me.

"They say it's the only disease that tells you...You don't have a disease".  That's what it told me also and my family and friends who would repeat it to me.  Glad I stopped falling for it and remained in the rooms following the suggestions and the elders.  Mahalo Akua...Thank you God.  smile

What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. (ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 85)
