As many of you know, I have become disabled and can no longer work. I am awaiting Social Security disability benefits but that can take forever. In the meantime, my wife and I have been doing our best to make ends meet and my higher power has been picking up our slack. Sunday my wife was injured at work and the doctor told her that she will be out for some time, perhaps a year. (She tore something in her elbow and it is causing nerve damage along with an inability to use her arm) So, our income has dried up for now. She will receive state disability eventually but in the interim, we have no real income. We are faced with two bills right now - our cell phone bill and our Comcast bill which includes phone, internet and cable. We can't pay either at the moment and the shutoff is scheduled for the end of the week. We think by then we'll be able to pay one of them and we're choosing to pay our cell phones as my wife uses that phone for a burgeoning Avon business and while it's a very small amount of money right now, it is growing. My point? I'll have no internet soon and we're going to have to move out of here within a week or so. Since we have no means of support at the moment, we don't know where we'll be or when we'll be back online so if you don't hear from me - I'm alive and doing well.
Really though, my main reason for posting this is to share my excitement and anticipation. Please don't worry about us; I have been and am continuing to live my higher powers dream for me. I've been getting hints all month that we are not supposed to be here any longer and while I accepted that easily enough, it seemed strange to me that my higher power would make miracles happen to continue to allow us to pay the rent for four or five months only to have us move out now - but it makes good sense now. Now that we are both disabled, we can find a place away from town where rent is close to nothing, live on close to nothing and have close to nothing to concern ourselves with. It's in my higher powers hands and so, there's really nothing but excitement about how this will turn out.
When I can get back online (I expect to be here for a few more days) I'll let you know how my higher power worked this out. Be happy for us please.

Hey Angell, I messaged you and I hope that a few others, that can, will message you also to see if we can help you to whatever extent that we can.
Your faith is amazing and your message helped me, as I'm having some rather insignificant problems that have nothing to do with basic food and shelter.
Please send me your address. Best of luck to you brother.
I've added you to my intentions list. My Higher Power checks that list out from time to time because it really is a "to do" list or a "I can't you can" list. Check out senior services in your area and the churches. There is a ton of willing help out there. (((hugs)))
Hi Angel. I know quite a bit about worker's compensation law as I'm an employer in the construction industry. But the laws are fairly universal. I think that what you are trying to say is that your wife's employer is treating her as a sub contractor? Perhaps to avoid paying workman's comp insurance on her. There are guidelines for this and in this state the "sub contractor" would have to have their own WC policy, or have filed a WC exemption. There are also test questions such as does this person set their own hours? do they get paid by the job, as in a bid fashion. What I'm getting at, is that if your wife got hurt On the Job, she is almost certainly entitled to workman's compensation to take care of her medical and pay her a certain amount till she is healthy enough to go back to work, and if she is permanantly disabled by the work related accident then she would be entitled to a settlement or income for an indefinite period of time. I would quickly look into this and probably speak to an attorney that is knowledgeable in worker's comp law. Here's is your state's WC website there should be a lot of info of the what, where, why, when, how concerning accidents on the job.
I don't get here very often, but Angell's post is perhaps the best, most inspiring example of sobriety I've seen on here. I'd even say life-changing, in terms of what a sober attitude can be,
Glad to have you on this journey with me Angell, and walk well on this road to happy destiny.
Hey Angel, after re-reading your initial comments, if your wife got hurt at work, shouldn't she file a workers compensation claim?
Hi Dean, she filed for state disability...we've never done anything like this before so I'm ignorant of whether or not the terminology changes from state to state. Turns out here that her employer is considered an independent - which means, the company itself pays her directly. They are making the determination now whether or not they will have her come in and sit there or allow her to stay at home and in the meantime, they told her to come in today and sit there for eight hours. They have to pay her minimum wage for 24 hours a week while disabled but there is a waiting period as well. Either way it looks like eventually money will be flowing again in her direction but it doesn't relieve us of the need to move - twenty four hours a week of minimum wage doesn't pay the $800/m rent here.
We are looking at moving about a three hour round trip way and so, at $15 a day in gas (no public transportation) it's going to eat into that quite a bit. At the moment they told her that they are scheduling her for five days a week but she has requested three eight hour shifts to save gas. They don't appear to be in the mood to be accommodating but who knows, they could have an instructive dream tonight. :) That would save us $120/m in gas over the $300/m if she has to go in five days a week. So at five days a week she'll take home, after gas, right at about $475/m. At three days a week she'll bring home about $650/m. When I get on social security it'll be another $700/m to start going up to just over $800 - Medicaid is another exciting part - eleven prescriptions not having to come out of pocket is a big deal.
We had good friends in the program offer us a travel trailer to live in on their property rent free. They have 32 and 11 years sober respectively and we love them a lot. Too, the wife is an ER nurse and she tells us that she feels better just having me close in case something goes wrong with my heart - so there is that. Eases my wife's concerns about my health somewhat too.
