LOL- love it Pappy! The more I learn, the more I don't know. It's brought humility, but that's exactly what I needed.
Hey Mike B, ... I was just re-reading this post and it came to me that early in the program, I had a sponsor that told me
"When you know you know, you'll never know ... but when you begin to do what we tell you to do and not to do ... then you'll begin to know that you don't know ..." ... ... ... I said 'Hell, you're crazy' ... He said ... 'I know' ... LOL

"Wisdom is knowledge you learn after you know it all."
You couldn't tell me anything before I entered recovery because I knew it all. I had all the answers for my life, and I had all the answers for yours, too, and I was quick to tell you about it. In fact, my favorite saying back then was, "Those who think they know it all are really annoying to those of us who do!"
When I came into the program, I brought all my opinions into the rooms with me. At first I tried to do things my way and thought I had better answers than you. I mean, "Turn it over"? "Let go and let God"? That may work for you, but I was sure I knew better. 90 days later, though, I was drunk!
When I finally admitted that I didn't know how to stay sober, I became willing to admit that perhaps I didn't know everything after all. That was the moment I became teachable, and it was the moment I began to recover. The longer I'm in the program, the more I realize that many times what I think I know, just ain't so.
Today I'm quick to admit that I don't have the aswers, and when I do, I become open to the wisdom that lies beyond.

Same with me ... if fact, I had to keep returning to the rooms ... seems like they only give out a little piece of wisdom at a time ... that's why I keep coming back, I don't have enough wisdom yet and they will not give it to me all at one time ... LOL

I can relate to thinking I knew everything.
It happened a few times in my life....all three times, I fell on my backside and had to admit I knew nothing and try to live again.
And yet, it happened three times.
At 19, and entering college, I knew everything.....got in a car crash, had to rededicate my life to my goals and go forward.
At 25, about to get married, I knew everything....had an major occupational blow up, had to reevaluate my goals and go forward.
At, 39, four children, married 14 years, I knew everything.....came into these rooms and found out I was powerless over alcohol, had to be willing to do anything to save my life.
Now, I'm wise enough to know that I know nothing. I can be open and willing to listen and share with others without having to have an answer for them or me!!
God is my director, I am the actor, and I have a whole lot of lines I have not even read or memorized---I look forward, day by day to an adventure in fellowship and learning what I don't know.
I vow to never know everything again....ever!!
Ya know??? ... ... ... I love this statement Pablo ... ... ... cause when I feel I know everything, I then become 'unteachable' ... and I have learned recently, on the Discovery channel I think, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks ...

When I became utterly powerless over alcohol and my life had become utterly unmanageable, amazingly enough I found myself becoming teachable. Today I am teachable because I want too and God does not tolerate my childish ways any more.
