Weekly Thought
Between personnel problems and cranky patients, Amy experienced considerable stress on her job as a nurse. Some of her frustration went home with her. Although she tried to spare her kids from her moods, four-year-old Brad took notice when her nerves were ragged. One evening, before she left for the night shift at the hospital, the child seemed sad as he hugged her goodbye. But suddenly his face seemed to brighten with an idea and he said: "Mom, while you're at work, think happy thoughts."
With a smile, she said, "Thanks, Brad, I will." And that night she did just thatfor Brad. But that night's shift went so much better than usual that she soon found herself thinking happy thoughts for herself.
All of us have reasons for joyan activity we love, a fun-loving friend, or in Amy's case, a tenderhearted young child waiting for her at home. When we choose to dwell on those delightful things in life, we find that joy fills us a little more easily, even during tough days.
God, today I choose, with Your help, to think about the good things in my life. Thank You for the joy You have given me. Amen.
